    PLEASE HELP....SL700 Not Starting

Tried to get the skis in for the first time this weekend. I got the fuel anD battery in and tried to do a dry land start and it didn't start. All I got was a click sound at the solenoid. The solenoid makes a humming sound, like it's reving up.

I checked the battery and it was good. I am wondering if my starter is out or what else it could be. Please help.

You sure the polarity is correct? Red on the positive terminal? Just have to ask. It's been done wrong a time or two.

If thats good, pull the plugs and see if you can turn the crank shaft by hand from the coupler at the rear of the engine. If thats good, open the elect box, and short the large terminals on the soleniod. Will it turn over now?

A rapid cycling sound (hum or buzz) from the relay/solenoid is almost always a weak battery, or a bad connection in the heavy cables.

Remove and clean both ends of both battery cables.

Pay special attention to the engine end of the negative cable. Make sure the bolt is clean, and there is no paint or corrosion between the cable and the engine when the bolt is tightened.

Red face And now the fuel gauge....

OK, I'm gonna be honest with everyone and say what the problem was, so that we can all learn from this idiot (me)....I didn't connect both ground wires to the battery. The humming noise that I heard was the bilge pump running. The solenoid box still did click...

Needless to say I am not very mechanically inclined and pretty much a novice at jet skis. Any way thanks for the help.

My next issue is the fuel gauge. The gauge reads full all the time. Where should I start to diagnose this issue?

Thanks for giving us the straight goods. It may help others who may read this thread later on

So you now have an engine that starts and runs, on the trailer - correct?

Do you have an MFD digital display, or an analog fuel gauge?

Did it used to work correctly?

Yes, They both start and run, on the trailer. I will be water testing them this weekend, but didn't have any problems with them last year.

The fuel gauge is an analog. I bought the skis used and they did not work when I bought them.

Both machines have the same fuel gauge problem - reading full?

Unplug the sender at the fuel tank. Does the reading change?

    I have not worked on the analog fuel gauges, but there are only three components involved;
    Fuel tank sender
    Fuel gauge
LR-52 module, which supplies a special low voltage feed to the gauge.

When the engine is off, does the fuel reading change?
