Thumbs up Rxp and Rxp-X speed / prop results- 3 blade vs. 4 blade

So, her 2006 RXP bone stock went 69.4 @8100 RPM 67* air 66* water 39% humidity full tank of gas- SKAT 3 blade 13/17.5. I was impressed.

RXP-X FULL to 3/4 tank of gas

Conditions were slightly different for each prop as it was a different day so it isn't the perfect comparison but most of all I had to gather the data to get these things in for their hopefully last tweak.

    3 blade SKAT at 15.5/22.5 ---60* air, 66* water 95% humidity--

    went 72.2 MPH @8160 w/ 82mm ring
    went 71.2 MPH @REV-LIMIT w/84.5 mm ring <--huge hole shot/mid range

    4 blade SOLAS at 15.5/22.5--- 66* air, 66* water, 39% humidity

    went 75.5 MPH @ 8060 w/ 82mm ring
    went 75.0 MPH @ 8080 w/ 83mm ring

So... it seems so far that the 3 MPH difference between 3 blade and 4 blade on the X is a fair statement.

The 4 blade really is weak down low compared to the 3 blade. Very noticeable difference as many have stated. However the 4 blade gets you moving up top..again as others have stated.

The best bang for the buck with each prop was 3 blade w/ 84.5 ring- HANG ON and 4 blade w/82 mm ring for speed.

I didn't notice much difference between the 82mm and 83mm ring with the 4 blade, except the GPS decline in speed.

I noticed a HUGE difference when going from the 84.5mm ring to the 82mm ring on the 3 blade- night and day. 82 mm was no fun.

I also realized that 1mm ring size does not equal 100 RPMs, more like 20 RPMs.

I'll be having both props tweaked for the goal of using no smaller than an 83.5 mm ring and up to an 86.5 mm ring aiming for a 84.5-85.5mm ring @ 8000 RPMS.

Not sure which prop I'm going to go with yet... I've read of a guy who has much less mods than me using a 3 blade SKAT claiming 74 MPH which if I could get that I'd prob. stick with the 3 blade. Not sure on how much truth that number holds though... based on the testing I have done.

Then again, I'm not sure why the 3 blade is acting shorter than the 4 blade at the same pitch. I just know I'm getting close.

The smaller rings really effect hole shot..... I myself don't like that. Going large on the props and large one the rings!

Pitch numbers don't translate well between different companies.
ie. A Solas 15/20 is not the same as a skat 15/20.

Yes, but I believe that a 3 blade at the same pitch as a 4 blade "should" be the steeper impeller of the two....

    4 blade 15.5/22.5
    79air 64water 30%humidity
    84.5mm ring 8040-8060
    74.5 mph full tank

13* increase in tepms, similar humidity, and upped 1.5 mm on the ring.

Im thinking that this prop is close to dialed, just needs a little tweak to get my 1 mph back while using the larger ring.

Could i possibly get more speed by going smalller on the leading edge ?

Nice work! Keep tweaking. Maybe send the Solas to Duke or Erik. That solas and an 83mm nozzle should be good for 77 mph easy, especially with the cool weather and water you have.

    Thanks.

I would send off to one of the two mentioned but Glen at skat has cut the props back and done all my pump work. Now that we are getting close I'm sure he'll know what to do to dial it in.

I really want to get that 3 blade up to 74 MPH- I just shipped it off to him today for more tweaking.

Keep ya'll posted. Any ideas or suggestions welcome....

Got my Skat 3 blade back today

I got my 3 blade prop back today... still a 15.5/22.5 but Glen added a "kick" to the trailing edge and cut it back some more.... the trailing edge is very very close to the veins!

Here's some pics. You can see how the trailing edge is tweeked...

I'll be testing tomorrow so keep ya'll updated.
