new speed for my lowell boat

guys managed to get some testing in today of some grates..

fitted a out the box 800 grate today that mike sent me cos i cracked my old 800 grate and my ss800 was not giving me speed i used to get and ive been banging my head trying to shim it to get my speed back,my old 800 best was 79.3mph but was constant 78.0 all day long,
since i fitted my ss800 and shimmed 12thou 28 thou front and rear i never managed to get over 77mph no matter what i did shim wise..
anyhow fitted an out the box 800 from mike and lost a few revs over the ss800 and now down to 7120rpm but managed with quater tank to hit 80.2 and constant 80mph in a few direction and some good flat water but the rad was pretty bad as were now sitting in the middle of a thunder storm..
i feel as if a weight has been lifted as ive worked hard to get this ss800 to work for me but it wont, results to follow as the ss is getting put on a table to get marked out and compared to a R&D 800,
i made a school boy error with my old cracked 800 grate and its now clear why i could never bust 80mph with it..results later..

will work mikes old grate as its a bad fit(like them all) from stock and hope for a clean air day in the week to come for some better numbers..

damn near pissed myself jumping about when i saw 80mph on mikes grate and kicked myself for my school boy error on my old 800

Could you elaborate on your "school boy error" and tell us why it's clear you couldn't bust 80 mph. You may help some from making the same mistakes. Thanks.

Congrats, glad to see you in the 80+ group thats got to feel great.
I sure hope you can get the SS grate to work that good so you dont have to always worry about the R&D cracking.
I will be doing some testing this week on the SS grate and a billion different shim combo's.

    Nice job Paul

since i fitted my ss800 and shimmed 12thou 28 thou front and rear i never managed to get over 77mph no matter what i did shim wise..
shimming the front down will definately scrub speed... maybe remove the front shim and just work the back

I actually had to remove some material from the front (resurfaced) of Dollar Bill's grate to get it to the desired depth.

wow nice speeds! Is this a 1300 or 1390cc? Looks like small changes in grates can effect top speed greatly.
