battery goes dead when sitting
i have a 98 gsx limited and i noticed last year that the battery will go dead when it sits for a while. does anyone know what one of these skis should draw on the battery for milliamps? it will be some to keep the memory for the hours, clock and such. just not sure what is normal. i think it was around 7 milli amps when i checked last year. thanks, paul c.

Regulator/rectifier... or current leak across a connection somewhere.... maybe across battery terminals.
Failing this, the battery could be beginning to short out internally, which is the death knell for it am afraid.
Disconnect the terminals, and monitor it over 24-48 hrs to see if the voltage drops, and to what extent.

i have already got a new battery but that was at the end of last year, so it didn't sit while connected. i was wondering about the vts unit? i just wasn't sure if anyone did a draw test with a digital meter set on milli amps. i know normal for todays cars is up to 40 m.a. draw.

The Regulator/Rectifier unit is built into the MPEM on those and are fairly reliable.
The VTS IS a possible culprit. If it has ever had water in it the likelyhood is increased. I had the same problem. VTS worked, but if left plugged up it would kill the battery in about 24 hrs.
Unplug both VTS plugs and let it sit the required amount of time and check you drop as Richieb said.

i was suspect of the vts. i am taking them out for the first time this saturday so i will monitor afterwards, thanks again.

Define "little while"? Most will go dead if it sits a couple months unattended. It also depends on baterry age and condition too.
