    New to me sl650

Hey everyone I am new to polaris skiis so please bear with me. I have purchased a 92 sl650 cheap. it does have a problem. It starts right up will run for about 15-20 seconds and then start dropping cylinders one after another, and then not start again for sometime. I have noticed that one of the wires for the temp-sensor is broke. will get a new one on Monday. Does any one here have any experience with a similar problem. Is it the stator -how can I check it with the engine still in the machine? Could it be fuel? is the single output fuel pump reliable? Any help would be great.

Clean/replace the fuel lines and rebuild the carbs.

Word on the lake is that the fuel pump doesn't supply enough fuel and should be replaced with a triple out mikuni for about $30. I know from experience that you should replace the in-line fuel filters.

Thanks for the quick replys I will clean the carbs and look into a new fuel pump. Is there anything else I should know about this model in regards to common problems?

If that ski has the autocock fuel valve installed, it should be removed. If you don't know what that is, it is a valve that is opened by vacuum when the engine is being cranked. It was found to be a problem in the early models and polaris issued a tech bulletin to remove.

    Welcome to the Hulk Ozz.

These guys have pointed you in the right direction thus far.

The triple outlet fuel pump should be a priority for you, as well as the fuel hoses. You're looking at $50 to replace them.

Also clean/inpect the carbs is a great suggestion too.

While you're that far into it, check the reeds condition.

Also the 92 uses individual intake manifolds for each carb. Might I suggest getting a single piece intake manifold for installation ease. I may have one you can have.

I think I found the problem with my carbs. Now I just need to find some new carbs.

Yucko!! Ya think there is water in the crank case too? Take a look in there throught the reed box ports while you have them out.

That's what I was afraid of.

You can clean them and rebuild them.
