Help with my My First PWC
I am getting ready to buy my first PWC. First I need some feedback on what to look for when buying a used ski. I'm concerned about getting taken and have to replace the engine in a week.
2nd do I go with a 2001 GP800R with 80 hours, very clean for $3,000 or a 2006 vx110 with 38 hours, spotless for $6,000 (I offered 5K and he took it immediately).
The ski is mainly for me. I don't have kids but have friends who will probably use it as well. I'm not going to race it although I do like speed.
I'm not much of a mechanic so I won't be doing much to it myself.
Thanks for the info

Did you take a look at the dealers for new? 5k for a used VX, you can get a new one for low 7s list, and I am sure that you can get a great deal on a brand new VX for less than that, I know in my neck of the woods you can.
Other than that, the VX would be a more stable craft. Easy maintenance, and reliable fun. The GPR, although its very agile, its not the best ride without hull modification.
If you want to go faster, maybe a used FX or a Seadoo RXP or RXT. They would be just a bit higher priced than the VX for a used ski, but have higher speeds, and especially the seadoos can get some killer speed.
BTW: Welcome to Greenhulk!

Thank you so much for the great info. Hate to get taken. I will check out the new ones and the seadoos.
I appreciate your response.

no problem doc. there are alot of great skis to buy in that price range used. If you just want to ride, the VX is a great way to do it. You could also consider trading up as you outgrow your ski.

first off if u like speed i wouldnt go with a vx especially for 5k you can get a stock gp1300 for around there with low hrs and it is a reliable ski if taken care of and kept mostly stock great ski just to go out and have fun to me

I have looked at a couple GP800r s and liked them but I haven't seen
any GP1300 locally. I think I would rather have a GP model rather than a
bigger less agile VX.
Thanks for all the input.
*** How far back would you go... 2001 that I looked at is already 8 years old even though it has only 80 hours on it.

If you want to just ride with no headaches the VX is the way to go. Im biased though cuz I love mines. Also I believe the 06 VX is a 4 stroke where the GP is a 2 stroke. 4 stroke burn a lot cleaner and you dont have to premix gas and oil.

if you buy the 2001 gp800r make shure you have someone or yourself check the oil lines. my freind bought one that had only 75 hrs on it. rode it a couple of times. and the oil line came off and destroyed the cylinder. there known for comming off. on older skis.

Is $5,000 too much to pay for a 2006 vx Deluxe with 30 hours on it.
How about $3000 for a 2001 GP800r with 80 hours.
Seems as if these are the going prices I see online but a few of you
seem to hint that its overpriced.

Do they come w/a trailer? How about cover, life vests, manuals, etc? All this stuff is worth something, esp a good trailer.
