You only need to change it if it is worn.

Good riding areas help a lot.

I've got an 06 Rxp, Just bought my 4th wear ring. Only way to maintain top speed and hole shot with no cavitation. they are easy to change, but I'm thinking about going SS wear ring.

Silly question, but what kinda riding style causes them to wear out? Riding fast? Does wake matter?

Actually that is a good question. When I was running my stock set up, I got a lot more hours out of it, but when I started running the concord 14/19 it seemed like the tolerances where tighter, wear ring scrubbed slightly on start up. Crap and sand, running in shallow water, pick up a stick......they all take a toll on the wear ring, but on the bright side it saves wear and tear on your impeller.

    +1 there.

Beach, or close beach riding. See it here all the time.

Anything with water containing other "things".

Surf riding, as there will be more suspended "things" in it too.

I changed mine at 23 hrs, and to be honest, I should have left it, as it was in good condition.

I considered SS ring, but contemplated a bent impeller being more costly to replace than a plastic wear ring, given I picked up a chunk of wood recently that was as hard as.

I guess it is almost a maintenance check item.

Better to tear up a wear ring than a good prop. You will still cavitate with a SS wear ring soon or later. Than your prop is messed up in the process.

Yeah...an SS ring and a good prop turned a stick into salad. A plastic woulda have to've been replaced.
