    Base gaskets

I took my ski out yesterday and it was just not running right,if i let it idle too long,it would stall and if i came off wot to idle and gave it wot again,it would die.(It's never done this before since doing the carbs,it only suffered a slight bog due to the stock airbox which is being changed soon but other than that it has been running really strong).Well,i took the seat off and ran it wot only to see water pissing out from what i think is the base gasket on the manifold side in line with the 2nd cyl.Would this cause it not to idle and to cut out and why would it all of a sudden start leaking there?thanks.

I think that is the cylinder head cover gasket. The base gasket is about 6 or 8 inches below that where the cylinder meets the crankase.

    thats the head cover gasket

water spraying around in the engine compartment is not good, so fix that first and then see how she runs

Yea, Thats the Cylinder head. Pull it off and check for a split gasket or a crack.

Thanks for the replys guys, sorry i was wrong,it is a head gasket, dont know why i thought it was a base gasket?I managed to get the head off and couldn't see any cracks, can i just replace the two gaskets or is it better to cut the head while it's off?if so,by how much?

you might not be able to see a crack. Look very closely, or consider using a dye penetrant to highlight any cracks.

If it's not cracked, replace the gaskets, put it back together, and hope for the best.
