Question Anyone fix MFDs and / or have used one ?

I have a 97 SLTX that goes thru MFDs every year or so.. getting old to say the least.

I read ( on this group ) the instructions for repairing one... and didnt have any luck... so I thought Id see if anyone fixes them.... and if anyone has one for sale... would like to find a used one if possible..

ALSO... is there anyway to bypass this or anything... This is a great running machine except this one reoccuring issue.

    TIA

There has been some in the classifieds for sale. Some have been trying to repair them. The experts should chime in soon.

How exactly are these MFD failing?

If it is NOT a display fading problem (parts of the digits fade out), you may have an electrical system problem that is killing the MFD.

Common MFD killers are bad grounds anywhere in the electrical system, but especially to the engine block. Another one is connecting the battery backwards. 'Bouncing' the battery post connection when hooking up the battery is also hard on the MFD.

    Smile MFD problems

I have been very careful with the battery hook ups... I found out that the previous owner had issues.. must have been the real reason they got rid of it ..LOL

There must be a short in it someplace... Ive looked.. guess I need to look harder and longer. .... esp before I get a new one installed or this one repaired.....

    Thx

Also check the charging voltage when running,it should'nt be higher then 14.5 -14.6. Over 15 deffinetly will be bad.

What happens when your MFD fails?

What does it do, or not do?
