Thread: gelcoat repair

Hi guys - I'm new to the forum.
I'm looking at buying a 2000 GP1200R. It's in good shape, but I'm concerned because there is a chip in the gelcoat down to the fiber glass. It's on the top half of the hull and it's a doughnut shape about the size of a half dollar with the center of still in tact.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is this easy to repair?
2. Will I cause damage to the fiberglass if I take it in the water for a test drive?
As far as I know there are no leaks, but I'll take a look inside when I'm done with a test ride.

here is a picture of the location of the damage. Sorry, this was taken with a cell phone, so it's the best I've got.

Dropped my donut.
Better test ride it before you buy it.

I had something similar in the exact same spot on my gpr hull, filled it in with marine tex and it's good now, though mine was a little smaller, you should be ok.
