    1993 SL 650 modd help

I have a 1993 sl 650 that is all stock and runs 47 mph on gps. I would like to crack 50mph or better. I do have a R&D intake grate that I have not installed yet. What can I expect to gain from a intake grate? I have read that a after market ride plate can add some mph's. Also changing the jet pump to a 94 and up pump would add as well? Any help would be great!!!

    Welcome to the Hulk.

    47 MPH for a 650 is awesome, A 750 runs 48 MPH.

The intake won't gain you anything except better hook up.

A ride plate will help a bit.

The newer pump will gain you better acceleration, plus has many more replacement parts and impellers available.

    Aftermarket Flame Arrestors will help.

Would I lose any top end if I were to install the intake grate? What pitch impeller would I use to increase my top speed? So if I were to add everything do you think that I might gain 1-3mph? And thanks for the help!!!!!!

You may lose a touch of top speed with that intake grate, more if it's the bigger 750 intake. But it will help if you ride in rougher water.

You're kinda stuck with impeller choices for that 146mm jet pump. I couldn't even tell you what would work.

You could gain 2 MPH if you go to the extended jet pump VS your old one for sure.

Add a SS 6 vane stator and you can gain another 1-2 MPH.

Your pump is really holding you back.

Those added speeds are also without doing any engine mods. Just the pump.

Sweet, So if I change the jet pump and the flame arrestors I stand a good chance of breaking into the 50mph mark! You have helped alot! I love this site! The info is price-less..........Do you know how much that jet pump would cost and were a good place to buy one? I dont know what size to buy, or can I extend the one I got? Also the 6 vane ss stator. I would like to change the pump right away. Thanks again!

Jet pumps can be found for as little as $75 for a good used short pump, all the way up to $300 for a good used long pump, and everything in between.

Now you can buy a 94 and newer short pump, and then add the missing parts later to make it an extended pump.

You can find them in places like Ebay, the classifieds section on here, or from PWC recyclers like John Zigler from here.

The same pump was used from 94 all the way up to the last year, so any of them will work. EXCEPT for the Octane model!!!!!!!

It would be nice to find one from a 650 already, so the impeller will work for you.

    No you can't extend the 92 & 93 146mm jet pumps.

    This is the 92 & 93 pump

And this is the 94 and newer

What hull do you have? Another 650?

If so, the 780 would be the biggest and easiest to install.

You can always go with another engine, but the $$ it would cost would not be worth the hassle.

Yea, It is a 92 650 hull I got for free for spare parts. There is no motor. There is a jet pump, exhaust pipe, motor Mount, and some misc parts. I was thinking a winter project.
