    Yamaha 1200 GP-R Carb problems

    Hi all,

Newbie here and I have some questions. I bought this ski used, it's a 2002 Yamaha 1200. It wont throttle up on take off unless the choke is half open...warm, or cold. It was suggested on another PWC site that I rebuild the carbs. I am not a carb guru and I am very reluctant to take on this project. The oil injection is still hooked up and I would like to block that off as well...how does one go about doing this?? I was told that there are folks on here that do carb rebuilding, and they are masters...I'm looking for one! lol Thanks in advance for any info!

    Kevin

I'm thoroughly convinced that the guy who invented the jet ski was a sick, twisted masochist! I cant believe how much work is involved in just getting to the carburetors, let alone removing them! I hope when Bill rebuilds them that it is quite some time before it has to be done again!

It's not that hard. A few bolts to remove the stinger, a few to remove the carb rack. If you have mechanical skills, you can figure it out.

If Bill doesn't respond, WFO rebuilds carbs too.

I have been turning wrenches on cars and trucks my whole life....removing this carb rack is kicking my a**! Is there something I'm missing...took out the four torx head in the center, three long bolts in the center of each carb...do I have to remove all of the bolts on the silver plate that backs the carb rack?? If so, how in the hell do you get to those bolts on the bottom??

Other than the 4 torx bolts, there are only 6 long bolts holding the carbs on. 3 top, 3 bottom. And obviously, the throttle/choke cables and fuel lines. Get a mirror and check it out.
