    RXT-X tunnel repair

Took my ski to the dealer for the tunnel repair. The Service Manager said he was going to pull the engine and pump to get access to the tunnel. Does this sound right? Seems a bit drastic and I'm not sure I am comfortable with this. I know the drive shaft will be out, is it recommended to replace the carbon seal at this time or is it going to be fine?

I think you are in good hands, removing the engine in a PWC is not really as drastic as it sounds... the nice thing is they seem to be acknowledging the problem and hey—if they screw it up it's their problem. When it's done, tell them you want them to water test it and check that seal out before you pick it up. If you want a little extra insurance, install a bilge pump when you get it back. Just get all the repairs documented and listed on your invoices in case that dealer goes out of business or something. Hopefully they will have you back on the water soon. The tunel can be fixed without engine removed but if there going to flip the hull there going to have to remove fluids if the motor is left in. Its not the big of a deal for them to remove the engine and might make it easier to work on tunnel. I have seen guys just remove fluids and put ski on its side.

    I think your ok.

Did your tunnel crack or are you just reinforcing it.

Thanks for the reasurance. This repair is covered by BRP warranty. My dealer inspected the boat, took pictures, sent pictures to BRP and waited. About a week or so later called me and confirmed that BRP is going to cover the defect. Full tunnel reinforcement and gel coat repair. I should have my boat back around the 22-23 of July. We will see.
