Is there a 'proper' way to install gaskets?

I'm going to be putting the top end back together this weekend. I was wondering what the proper way of installing gaskets are. On the rebuild, I coated all gaskets with oil before installing. Is this beneficial? harmful? Will it benefit to coat them with some kind of a liquid gasket?

Also, is there any trick to installing the carb? I always have problems holding the lower gaskets in place while trying to get the carb on. Any advice will be great.

I always use copper spray, you can spray the gaskets days/hours before using them. I've never had a leak.

I always coat the base gaskets with a little 2 stroke oil. A little trick i learned while racing snowmobiles. It helps when you need to scrape them back off, otherwise they can be a real P.I.T.A.

    Since you were 7...

Polaris doesn't use anything, but you're not going to hurt anything either if you do.

Unless you use too much and clog passages.
