Question Need some help with a 96 sl 780 please

Hey guys, my cousin said that if I can get his ski running I can use it so I'm out in the yard trying to get it running. Ran fine but it has been sitting for 4 years now. I put a new batt and it starts to crank but won't turn over. I removed the plugs and tried but the crank still won't spin. It moves a little but it seems locked up. I pulled the engine apart (prob a bad idea) and sucked a shvt load of oil out of the case. What internal component would cause the crank to spin an inch but no more? Thanks for the help

Obstruction in the pump? Bad pump bearing? Oil in the case is a good thing. Much better that water!

What pump are you referring to? The crankshaft won't turn

how does it look in the cylinders? I would pull the pump off and look everything over.. then try turning over the engine. How much oil is in the case? may want to try taking off the drive shaft guard and turning it by hand.. if the cases are full of oil which is unlikely, it will hydro lock. has it been winterized (drained of fuel) before it was stored? if not carbs need to come off and cleaned. was it stored outside or inside?

the jet pump (its on the bottom/back of the ski).. look into the little round thing and see if theres anything in there, then remove the four bolts and the control cables. sometimes they come of easy, sometimes they don't. By the sound of it you may want to bring it to someone who has more experience. If you are confident you can take it apart and put it back together then have at it!

Pull the jet pump and inspect.. Pull the 4 long bolts on the pump nozzle, the hoses (if you them), steering linkage, and trim. A bit of persuasion may be needed to get it done. You will want to spray a penetrant on the threads of the bolts, and apply a little heat to get them out so they don't break.

    Welcome to the Hulk.

If the ski is ridden in salt water, the jet pump may have swollen and is preventing the impeller from turning.

If the impeller is fine, you may have a starter bendix that's stuck.

Like they mentioned ^^^^^, remove the jet pump from the equation. Then try turning the crank over by hand with the engine coupler. If it still doesn't turn over, it may be the bendix, or the pistons to cyls are seized.

Let us know what you find.
