All 3 look lean to me.The extra heat at the mag didn't help any. Do kawi's have trouble with the fuel selector leaking air when they get old ? Check all the fuel lines for cracks. Check the Keihin carb screens. Other wise leak check the engine.

carbs are super clean no buildup at all, anyone know the popoff for these? keihin carbs same as domestic 700's I would think 35 psi would be good.

That looks exactly like DETO. Are you lugging the engine somehow? Are the rpm's at the specified place? Did you, (or can you) pressure test the engine. This isn't the same as a compression check.

The burn pattern might be a touch lean, but not bad. Go up one jet and rebuild the top end.

this is not my ski, its a buddy of mines. he may be towing skier's, but compression on the two good cylinders was 110 psi so unless the timing is off its not going to be deto.. I dont think

    38 w/accell 20-24 psi

    40mm w/accell 18-20 ,later model 700 (i beleive 38 w-o/accel ) also 18-20 psi

See any build-up of silt/sandy material in cooling jackets? Have you verified all the cooling passages are clear?

Ran into several Kaw's that have deto/preign from heat. The mag case cover loves to fill up with sand on the kaws, symptoms will first show as hot waterbox, and melted coupler from pipe to waterbox. Has this ski had any of these issues?

    I doubt it is timing.......

It may also be bad fuel. Water, high ethanol etc....???

Edit: I'd like to see a more clear pic of the pistons. To me, it just looks plain lean! If detonation occured, it is from being lean, and or lack of cooling, or combination of both (lean produced the heat for deto). It's too lean for recreational riding in my opinion.

Also try and get picture of the head.
