    '94 650 to 750 swap-clarification CDI ops

Guys I need your opinion/knowledge. Please let me know if I have missed or misunderstood something in my searches.

I swapped a 750 into my 650 hull-form, fit and function no problem. I changed the pump/impeller to the 750 spec and all reccomended fuel upgrades and servicing has been done.

The 750 motor I purchased came without the stator and flywheel and front cover. I put the 650 stator and flywheel into the 750.

*****Am I correct in stating that this is why the 750 CDI does not work with this motor? I have tried two of them and neither fires.******

    Are these correct statements????

    1. The 650 CDI uses an analog pulse from the stator
    2. The 750 CDI uses a digital pulse from the stator
    3. While the 750 runs fine with the 650 CDI/stator/flywheel combo I will need to change all three of these (CDI/stator/flywheel) to get the true performance out of the 750.
    Thanks for your help

Well, there seems to be some mixed results to this issue. The analog/ digital thing I'm gunna test myself soon.
I ran a test on my original 780 using a 95 650s cdi. It worked.
I sent that cdi to a guy to test on his 750 that wasn't firing, to see if it was the cdi that was giving him problems. He got the engine to fire. He asked if he could buy it, and I said "sure, but its not supposed to work"
He wanted it anyhow. I asked him to tell me if it ever gave him any trouble, and he said he would. I never heard back from him.
If you had a 750 flywheel, I bet it would fire. The 650 had small magnets that won't fire a 750 or better cdi.
I'm about to test that theory on my new project. Will be using a 95 650 stator with a 780 flywheel, and a pro 785 cdi. Some say it won't work long, but I'm gunna see how long it will go.

Did you ever get your 750 to run? I have a similar problem, I have a 94 SL750, but my stator and flywheel came off of a 95 SL650 and the ski won't fire. I tried to buy a stator and flywheel from cubsfan but he ripped me off ( I sent the money order before all the replies about him). Can anybody help me in the right direction?

The 650 stator crapped out after a short time when I used it with a 750 CDI.

If you have the 650 stator and flywheel, use the 650 CDI.

You won't notice much difference between the 2.

Frobate, you are correct in your findings.

Yeah the 750 motor runs fine with the 650 stator, 650 flywheel and 650 CDI. However, as in your case the 650 Stator and 650 flywheel WILL NOT FIRE WITH A 750 CDI unit!! I have tried two of them and get the same result-NOTHING-I put the 650 CDI back in and she fires right up.

Ehren-put a 650 CDI unit in and the ski should run if everything else is in order.

If you get a 750 Stator AND a 750 Flywheel AND a 750 CDI then your ski will have the correct ignition system in it, should have the correct timing (more advance than the 650) and will have the slight increase in performance that the additional 10 horses may bring.
