    MFD and Battery Voltage?

I have read several post on here that low voltage can cause an MFD to not function properly. Right now my MFD stay on the clock mode, when you press mode it flashers the red led and scrolls all the way through and goes back to clock mode. You can read the MPH and RPM while it scrolls when running on water. Does this sounds like a voltage problem? I think the volts were reading 11.5 to 12? thanks

    Virage or Genesis?
    SL 750?

    Carb'ed or fuel injected?

You press any button, the MFD display 'wakes up', and for the next five minutes you can read RPM and speed, and everything seems to be working on the display - correct?

The the MFD goes to sleep while you are still riding, until you press a button again. Is that what is happening?

When running it shows the clock and at rest shows the clock. Will not register any other info until you press a button. The only time you get to see anything ex. rpm, mph and volts is when you push the mode button and it scrolls through all the field while the LED light flashes then it goes off again , then back to clock mode. Also when you press the mode and set buttons it will do the same thing, run through the fields then back to clock mode.
Borrowed this pic off the site .... not mine.

Ah, so it never actually shows you a real, live engine running non-zero RPM number?

Trace the Yellow wires. Yellow is the RPM signal to the MFD, and is the signal that wakes the MFD up, and keeps it awake.

Engine off, the Yellow wire at the MFD should show full battery voltage. If it does not, check the stator charging coil ohms (disconnect and measure the stator Red/Purple to Yellow), and also check the Red/Purple stator connection all the way to the battery.

I suspect somewhere you will find a problem in the stator charging circuit, or the Yellow wire to the MFD.

While you are checking the charging system, confirm that when engine is running you have battery voltage of 13.5 to 14.5 volts, and it is stable as RPM varies.

Also check the pin connections at the back of the MFD. If all this checks good, then it is possible the MFD has gone bad.

Thanks, I will check for that this weekend when I hit the lake. Hopefully I will find the problem and get it running right.
