  • Party of Four Yamaha SUV-1.8 SHO conversion

Well I have been talking about doing this build for a long time. The donor ski popped up in the classifieds a few months back, and it was being sold by a reputable member at a decent price. so I decided to pull the trigger and do this. The donor is an 09 FZR with 49 hours on the motor, hull is completely trashed. It will be going in my son Alex's 01 Yamaha SUV.

Mark will be here on the 20th of April and he will be bringing the SUV from Lowell's house in Havasu. The install happens over that weekend.

The funny thing is after I bought the motor we were at the Mark Hahn race and Mark (hydrotoys) was using the SUV to take pictures on the course, he told me it was running funny, and sure enough it decided to drop the #3 rod bearing and grenade the motor. She must have known that I had a replacement for her.

When I bought the ski in 2002 it had this already on the back, we decided it was fitting for its new life.Click image for larger version

That's a cool ski. Nothing quite like it on the water. It looks like you could dock a gpr inside of it.

Awesome, it was great to meet you at the Hahn, thanks again for getting our quad moving more than a few times. I am looking forward to this build, I was actually just looking for the conversion with 2 sho motors in the boat and stumbled onto this, I may have made that up but I thought there was one on here.

Ill bring the duct tape and bailing wire.... might consider a turbo. 25 pounds of boost might get this thing to 85 plus!

85? no problem. The hull is probably big enough.

It's mostly about modernization, better fuel economy, and of course some more power up top. I think with the stock sho engine, it will hit all of these, and still be a worthwhile upgrade. Just having a linear throttle response will make Mrs Oside happy.

This is going to be a fun build and remember it is for my Son, he is in Marks picture at the helm. I originaly bought this thing for him, he would not get on any of the other skis we had. He had a huge fear of the water as well, after several trips and getting his confidence up. the fears are gone, and he lives to ride. You have to meet him to fully appreciate how special that is for me, it is my obligation to keep this ski up and running as long as possible. The motor will be a kick in the pants compared to the 65U that was in it, but reliability is the most important factor for this ski.
