  • GPX GPR Meets FXHO

Hello to every one who takes the time to read this. My name is Nick and I'm a Yamaha watercraft tech employed at sunsports cycle and watercraft in Fort Myers, Fl.This is my fist post and i hope you enjoy.

Well this is my own project ski. A 2001 gp1200r hull with a 05 fxho motor. For the most part it was a simple bolt in operation. I wanted to keep it kinda factory and kinda race. I mainly wanted to keep it under budget!

I haven't had it in the water yet, but i will soon.

For the most part it is stock. I do have on it Riva intake and trim tabs. I have solas impeller, but I am currently running all factory 05 fxho drive line. I also just wanted to what it would be like to run it with out a water box, so I had a custom exhaust tube made outta 3.5" aluminum. I also used an aluminum v-band clamp and welded it to the factory peice.

It has only been rough assembeled, but I'm in the process of cleaning up the routing and mounting. I just slapped it together to have some fun for now.

please feel free to throw any comments or questions my way.
    thanks
    Nick

I am happy to see you did a stock conversion. I would love to see what it runs with that motor and setup you have in it. We also need videos

          NICE!

I have been thinking about doing this.

Should get 150+ miles to the tank and 70mph.

fantastic, but help me out.. on the pic it looks like the centerlines of the output shaft and the midshaft bearing are not aligned..? And that exhaust is unjacketed and so seems like it would get really hot..

                        not knocking your build..just askin'

love the idea and hope you can show us some cool results

I would be happy if it broke mid 60's on gps. The stock sho i ran with the gps did 65 mph.

The mods are very few. The mounts line up and as long as you use the fx drive line your set. Round up a gp1300r gas tank and any efi fuel pump except the sho. I did use a VX110 oil tank top, and the seat still rubbs a little, but it also gives you a factory place to mount the flush hose. The fx cooling hoses are bigger diameter, and there is two of the out going water hoses in stead of just one in the gpr hulls, so you can tee them together or run the second one out the trim cable hole like I did. I didn't cut my hull in order to bolt the engine to the mounts, it didn't make contact, but it rubbs. When I pull the motor after testing is done and its ready for paint I will see to clearanceing the hull properly.
You also have a choice in displays. All efi guages will plug in, even the gp1300r, but it won't have all the proper lights. It does fit the best. The older fx is perfect it has all the lights required, little trimming to fit and shows full rpm. unlike the vx110 deluxe guage I used, but it was cheap and has all the proper lights. I even have the remote lock out option. For the fun of it I used a flush mount lanyard and key ignition switch from a yamaha jet boat. I think the rest is in the pics.

I have to give all the credit for the custom exhaust to my old boss Justin of J&J Performnace of Ft. Myers Fl. I dropped the ski off saturday and a few hours later it was done. He even quickly fabbed up the mounts for the elec box to be hung upside down. Yes I had to mount the roll over switch upside down to compensate, but it worked out perfect.

I should be gps'ing it on thursday morning. I will update as it happens.
thanks alot for the warm welcome and compliments
                          Nick

The drive line mounts up and lines up perfectly and that part of the exhaust isn't jacketed from the factory. I don't anticipate any cooling issues, because it copys the factory exhaust just with out the water box.
thanks for the feedback I hope I don't run in to any cooling problems, but you never know untill it hits the water.
