  • GPRXP Fuel Tank Installation

    Tank Position:
    1. Remove the very front rectangular piece of foam in front of stock tank.
    2. Leave the stock GPR tank vent system.
    3. Remove stock gpr straps, tank, and related gas hardware.
    4. Put new tank in hull, with filler on starboard side. You might also have to bend the tank on each side where the lower hull supports contact the tank in the rear.
    5. Mark on inner liner where straps need to be installed.
    6. Pull tank back, mark and drill hose. Make sure they are low enough so that the straps are tight when tank installed.
    7. Rivet plates in place on both sides.
    8. If the tank doesn't fit perfectly, use a heat gun, soften tank corners, press down with a 2x4, and put in while still warm.
    9. Reinstall tank and rubber straps.
    Gas Hose Installation:
    1. Take RXP gas hose, and cut it in half so that you have 2 90deg bends. You can do it with the GPR gas hose, but it's a little tighter.
    2. Put a 90 deg bend on tank and on gas cap flange facing each other.
    3. Measure the distance to cut your 2" adaptor.
    4. Cut and install with a couple of clamps.
    Tank Vent Installation:
    1. Use the Tee'd tank vents on the RXP tank.
    2. You can run the "out" vent to the side of the hull.
    3. You should run the "in" vent to the stock Yami vent system.

Also, experimenting with putting the gas tank in the gpr, with the same orientation as the RXP/T. I'm not sure of the advantages, but it looks cool. The gas filler hoses are a 90deg and a 45deg at the tank.

It doesn't really seem like the rear of the tank is the problem in my hull and I don't believe that the tank will sit flat with or without melting the rear corners.
So I'm wondering, is it normal for the RXP tank to be slanting downwards towards the back of the ski? The way the hull is shaped up front looks like it forces a slant..??

No, it sits flat in the rxp. You really should force it in there. Take out the front foam and the epoxy, if your has it. You may or may not have to soften the corners. It's pretty easy with a 2x4 and a heat gun. Practice on the gpr tank.

      take the gas out first.

If you guys wouldn't mind, remind me again. Why I cant just cut the hole bigger in the Yamaha GPR Fuel Tank, and put the RXP pump in it? I did just that as I have shown in the pics below, and I see no problems, it fits perfectly... Especially with some legs added on the bottom to keep the filter from being crushed.

If it works for you, great! It's also holds less gas than the rxp tank, so don't be too surprised. Plus, make sure that you don't have leaks around the top. Use screws and nuts, etc...not epoxy or gaskets.

If you just have to use a Yamaha tank, I'd suggest using a tank out of a XLT... it's 18 gallons.

UHMB or whatever the plastic is that they make tanks out of, is very resistant to sealants or epoxies. Been there, done that.

Can the Yami tank strap brackets be re-used and riveted to the hull for the RXP straps?

              Vents

Mark, I was installing my tank today and wanted your take on the venting. I think I got it right. . .

SD in check valve went to OEM Yamaha hose, labeled VENT that goes to the water separator. OUT check valve was attached to stock, now unused Yamaha pisser. Hose with Y was tie strapped to steering cable, with everything routed to that the blue out fitting is the lowest point and the in is the highest.

Yup, that will probably work. Keeping that "in" dry seems to be the ticket.

has anybody some how made the OEM yamaha straps fit for the RXP gas tank?

I guess I haven't gone out and looked.. but for the new gas tank straps (the seadoo ones) that rivet to the hull... will the rivets be sticking out on the other side.. like on the outside of the hull?

and mark what type of attachment are you using to fit between the fittings on the gas tank aka the big nice chrome looking piece?

                  thanks

you rivet the straps to the inner hull. there's about 8" of dead space between what you see from the inside and the outside of the hull. you can try the gpr straps. I think the problem is going to be that the rxp tank has a step in it where the air box used to go, and that would make the straps, at least on 1 side loose.

the big chrome thing is called a 2" thin walled tubing, as outlined. The gpr has an inner liner. The rivets are not seen.
