GPRXP Start/Stop switch modification

  • GPRXP Start/Stop switch modification

    You can keep your stock GPR start/stop switch with a very, very simple modification AND gain a momentary switch for checking your bilge, or maybe hitting that nitrous button.

    ...or You can also buy the UMI switch housing that contains the start/stop switch and the trim.
    • On the end of the cable, cut off the Yamaha electrical connectors. Cut one set longer than the other
    • Remove it from your bars by taking out the two rear screws.
    • Inside you will see a plunger with a spring/plate/e-clip.
    • Wearing safety glasses, remove e-clip. It will shoot across the room.
    • Take the black plunger with the oring on it, and cut it about 1/4" off.
    • Take some clear silicone or super glue and reseal it to the housing flush.
    • Reinstall on your bars.
    • Now, both switches are momentary Normally-open switches. Wire the green button to your SeaDoo start stop switch.
    • Use the red button for whatever you want.

    Mark, or anyone else, do you recall which wires are for the red and which wires were for the green buttons? I will pull it back apart if I need to.

        Yeah, that pic up there has the two cut shorter than the others. Using a dvm, you should be able to push the green button and see the circuit close.

          When using the UMI housing. What happens to the mode and set buttons on the 04/05 ski's ?

            Use a SSt wood screw right between the two buttons. Works like a charm and blends in nicely with the stock dash.

              Here is a better explanation of the transformation from a Yamaha start/stop/kill switch to a basic 2 switch housing and some updated pics.

              It is a "combo switch. It is not the same on EITHER SWITCH SET with the lanyard removed. BUT if you simply remove the safety lanyard switch removed, it becomes two N/O switches.

              Why? The lanyard safety switch is a combo of two different type of switches. Simply removing the post by popping out the e-clip and removing the post makes them both N/O switches on discrete serial circuits.

              This works on every ski we've done. Trust me, it's two discrete circuits... I was confused on the very first one, and we wired Joe's this way. It was a waste of time, and could potentially expose the wiring to water up on the handlebars. All the rest we did by removing the post. Period.

              Inside the safety switch is 2 discrete circuits. Here is the break down.
              -Green button: normally your starter button on the gpr

              * Inside the safety lanyard switch SPECIFICALLY for this circuit, is a N/C switch. When you have the GPR lanyard attached, the N/C switch inside the safety switch is N/C. If you remove the lanyard the spring and pole pushes this switch and opens the circuit. If you take the lanyard off, the ski will not turn over by pressing the green button. If you put the lanyard in, it will.
              * However, when you remove the plunger, NOW this switch specifically for the green button inside the safety switch becomes a N/C circuit, and the green button fires at will. Nothing else interferes.
              * This has NOTHING to do with the red switch. These two circuits are isolated, except for the safety switch housing.

              Red Button: Normally your ignition kill on your gpr.

              * Inside the safety lanyard switch SPECIFICALLY for this circuit, is a N/O switch. HOWEVER, the red switch and the lanyard is wired in PARALLEL with each other...NOT the green switch. Without the lanyard, the switch is depressed making it a N/C switch. When you Attach the GPR lanyard, the N/O switch inside the safety switch is in it's natural N/O state and your ski will run. . If you take the lanyard off, now the parallel part of the switch has been removed, and the red button, being a N/O switch will activate if you push it. This is how it duplicates killing the engine with either the lanyard removal OR the red button.
              * By removing the post from the safety switch, the red button is now a N/O switch activating the circuit only. Nothing else.
              * This has NOTHING to do with the green switch.

              Simply removing the post from the safety switch renders both switches N/O switches that function indifferently from each other. The lanyard is removed, and the red switch is the red switch and the green switch is the green switch.

                i have a question. on a sea doo. the start stop is normally open. you press the button and it closes the circuit makes connection. the lanyard post on a sea doo is also normaly open. when you put the lanyard on it closes the circuit? when the circuit is broken lanyard being removed kills the engine?

                im wiring up an enhancer to run without the module on my 787 hx. and want to use the yamaha start stop housing.

                any help is appreciated.

                  It will work for that too. Once you mod it, it becomes two N.O. buttons.

                    Stupid question... but I guess now if you fall off, the ski just keeps running?

                      no this is ment to work with the Seadoo Dess key and key post. This is a start stop button now. On mine I made 3 momentaty buttone 1) start stop 1)mode and 1)set.
