  • GPRXP Vigilante Battery support

This is an open thread showing some of the ideas for battery placement. Some pics of the different ideas so far.

-Stock GPRXP with internal intercooler. Square tubing, with a plate mount, and a brace, on the starboard rear side behind air intake with the stock rxp battery mount on top of it.

The next mounting point, is on top of the pump tunnel. You can make the bracket using 1" L-bracket. Each side is around 7" long, with attachment "feet" on the rear transom plate bolts. This design is best for mounting an external intercooler, yet keeping the battery in a service-friendly location.

The next version, is used on the Spitfire, and maximizes the weight toward the rear of the ski, while allowing for a waterbox, intercooler, or any other accesory. It locates the battery in the most rear area of the ski, behind where the stock waterbox would be.

Lastly, Jerry has the battery mounted in front of the engine, behind the gas tank, using the old tank mounts, and the front engine mount. No pic.

As noted in the other thread, here is a location for the Stickem turbo. The assembly is too long to make the corner over to the stock location, as well as needed a little support off the rear pipe. Here is some mockups and first attempt. Note that the "feet" are providing the attachment points for the trim tabs.

You can NOT use the stock GPR exhaust, which is a shame, since it is BY FAR, the best sounding and least restrictive options.

Shibby had posted this on another thread. Pretty good ideas here for hold-downs and mounts...

for those of you who have mounted the battery in the back, behind the waterbox, did you run some type of wiring back there in case you need to charge it or something?

I'm thinking about moving my battery back there again, I all ready have a bracket for it, where the trim tabs mount. I moved it out of there because it was a pain to get to if I needed to do anything to it.

I all ready have a fuse block that supplies power to all the accessories, could I just hook the charger up to that and call it a day?

If I had it to do over again I won't mount the battery in the back of the ski. Actually its being moved to the front of the motor before the season starts. I have a marine power terminat bolted into a plate mounted under the jpipe in the stock mid wall insert. I dont like the hot wire run all the way to the back of the ski. If for some reason something hits the post thats metal it imediately shorts out your fuel pump.. Ask me how I know this 3 fuel pumps later.

Interesting, I do like the idea of not having those long ass cables running to the back of the ski. My main reason for moving it was that I might need to cut up the battery bucket some more now, with the IC in there. Plus, I'd like to have some more storage..... Might be a pain in the butt to redo now though.

One thing I'll never do again, is use the smaller 16 series battery. That was just absolutely retarded.

The Idea behind putting the battery opposite the intercooler was to get more weight towards the back of the ski and counter balance the weight of the intercooler. It was a pain in the ass to run such long cables to the battery. I moved mine last year to a spot in front of the motor. It really makes things less complicated and running ground and power wires from the battery is a piece of cake now. I have not noticed any ill effects from moving the battery. In theory it was a good idea but in reality just doesn't make any difference.
