  • GPRXP Battery support for turbo

This is for stickems turbo setup or anyone that wants to move the exhaust over to the other side. In a nutshell, You seal off the old GPR exhaust, and put a thru hull on the port side. The battery now goes where the exhaust used to go, using new trim tab brackets to mount a 7x7 angle bracket.

    Parts 304L SST:
    • 1"x1"x1/8" angle, 7.25" long. You will need 4 of them.
    • 1"x1/2" flat bar. Approx 8" long, cut to your length.
    • 307 mig wire or tig consumables.
    • M6 tap and corresponding drill bit.
    • 2x 3/16" aluminum rivet.
    • 8x M6 bolts. Not sure if the stock ones work or not.
    • 4200 sealant.
    Pictures to follow.

Unfortunately, the hull I'm putting these into isn't stock, so I'm not able to tell if you can drill the holes in the supports straight (perpendicular) on a stock hull. On this hull, the holes do not appear to be straight, by just looking at the original plates.

I'm going to have to mount the plates with rivets, drill the plates, in-situ, and also tack the battery bracket on top, in-situ.

On a side-note... you will need to choose your bolt length properly, or have them bottom out on the bottom of the bracket, or if you drill the bracket, possibly bottom on on the battery.

Why? Do you think taking a dead-weight of 25ish lbs off the starboard side of the nose of a RXP would be a good thing?

Okay, I've seen a couple of mounts for the RXP. One is other the gas tank, right where the intake hole is in front of the seat. The other is down where the old outlet was, similar to what I'm trying to do here.

in the rear by the old exhaust outlet would be ideal, but if you have an external IC theres probably some space issues. Do you have any pics of either setup?

                        Looks great mark.

Aside from your many skills and talents, the one i envy the most is your ability to weld. Everyday i wake up wishing I knew how to weld. I'm sure I could learn, but it's one of those things that takes that fair chunk of initial investment so you can have the equipment to teach yourself. Maybe one day!

                          Hey Steve,
I started welding because I wanted to make engine mounts for the vigilante. I went overboard with the Miller Passport welder. Any of the basic mig gas shielded welders would have done.

My advice is to get a MIG welder. Buy a ten minute video. Find out who your local metal supply house is. Buy some scrap and have at it.

Also, there is a ****LOAD of good welders on this board that can help. I'm not a good welder. But I'm learning.

Rule #1 for welding. You are only as good of a welder as you are a grinder.

I just got a new to me Mig and set it up for aluminum stainless and steel. Had to relearn aluminum. After a few passes to dial the setting in I am back in form. Bad weld top good weld bottom.
