  • washing off engine

just purchased my 05 aquatrax r-12x this past weekend and love it! the guy i bought it from lived down south so he would ride in bracish water, was wondering if i can hose off the engine? i know on a regular car engine you can just without alot of preassure. same applies here?? thanks

I hose of my engine only when I see small amounts of salt build up accumulating. I spray it lightly with my hose using Salt-Away solution, air dry with small leaf blower, wet-vac remaining water from bottom of hull, then coat engine with Fluid film.

CRC or Fluid. Some of us prefer Fluid Film because it is a lanolin based corrosive protectant rather than a petro based lubricant. Don't get me wrong, I used CRC for years on my 2 smokes but these new skis have a lot more plastic plugs (electrical) and such. CRC can be hard over time on these electrical connections and other rubber/plastic.
Bottom line is anything is better than nothing.
If you ride in the ocean do as STUNNA has suggested, but ALWAYS make sure and spray the turbo and waste gate actuator with whatever lube/protectant spray you are using and also leave the seat off for the ride home. Put it in the back of the truck/suv, whatever. Let it air dry out.
You should spray the turbo/waste gate down after each day of riding, fresh or salt water. They are made of carbon steel and will rust, even if it is dry in there, they will. This will save you $$$ in the long run and make your R-12 a long lasting/running machine. The R-12 is a great little ski. Have fun and good luck.

After a ride I usually pull seat off, remove rear insert (F12X) pull out storage bin from front and sit our house fan in the hole so it blows through the hull for 24hrs or so then spray 556 all over everything. Engine still looks like new at 100 hours

Crc 66 is lanolin based, so is lanox and fluidfilm... I found crc66 not 656 different formulas to be the one that goes better with all the rubbers, all other ones seams to some how affect the rubbers, either by swelling or making them porous.
My Honda has 500hs and still looks brand be in and out and the only hard part was to find a oil that agrees with the rubbers and electricals gotta go now continue latter if that is a replay

Spray crc66 lanolin on all electrical plugs after that u can fully hose it down. Mine has 500 hs and still no rust or damages of any kind
