I wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes and thoughtfulness, especially in offering to ship me a free fuel pump. Being out the 2k hurts, but not as bad as losing an entire summer that has been gorgeous here in NY.... Had my dealer not been such a putz, i would have asked for our trade in machines back, thats the least he could have done considering he sold us not 1 but 2 lemons... He got rid of 2 brand new defective skis from his inventory, and got an immaculate low hr. 310r
anyway,,, I also wanted to thank Leslie from KMC,,, she was absolutely fantastic in helping us get all this sorted out...
I am a bit disappointed in the customer service manager out in Cali though... He has recommended against purchasing any new 2019 310, stating that any machine whether in the crate or on the dealer showroom floor could potentially have this problem... our machines were in the process of being purchased back from kawi at the time the Aussies said to try replacing the fuel pump, so i could not have that done. Ive asked him several times about relaying the info to the tech guys and several questions about purchasing 2 other 310s or waiting until 2020 and trying to get a straight answer before plunking down another 30k... Found a great deal on a 2019 310r with the ability to test ride before finalizing the purchase and would really like to know if its really just the fuel pump... if it was i'd have no problem buying 2 new skis.
guess were holding out hope that we could still find 2 new ultras and salvage some of the season, even if its only a few weeks...
The wife and i test rode the 2019 gp1800 and the 2019 fx svho, we just cannot will ourselves into liking them and justify spending 35k on skis we really dont like all that much. We still want 2 Kawi ultras....Last edited by Chris288; 08-08-2019, 06:26 PM.2020 Ultra310 R

Looks like they've changed the part number for the fuel pump from 49040-0712 to 49040-0748. This new number supersedes the old number for the older models. This does not bode well for old 'Skis that need replacement fuel pumps.'15 Kawi Ultra 310X

Either way your story has a fairly happy ending and hopefully Kawi can get to the bottom of it and move forward.Had to be there - and there.Comment

The fix has been posted ..... it's not and never has been an ECU ( only early 2014 had that low rpm issue).....the files in the ECU are the same.... it's not gonna stop me buying a 2019 ski for my wife that 100% for sure..... a simple fix if it happens and then of we go into the choppy sunset....People who believe in the faulty piston scandel obviously voted for Creepy Joe.... California assured me its NOT the fuel pump assy.,if it was such a simple fix they would not have purchased 30,000 worth of skis back that i already owned, they would have ordered 2 fuel pump assemblies and sent me on my way, both myself and kawasaki happier in the end.2020 Ultra310 R

As usual, your the smartest guy in the room, except your wrong. Funniest comment of the whole thread so far is you thinking refunding 30,000 dollars is easier than installing 2 fuel pumps. You really must think the techs at kawasaki are a bunch of buffoons. They should probably just consult the all knowing all seeing great and powerful Waz in OZ in the future.Last edited by Chris288; 08-10-2019, 06:43 PM.2020 Ultra310 R

Take a chill pill dude.... I never said I fixed any thing, I'm just lucky enough to know a person who actually has !!!!!!Unlike others in the world....
Your the one bashing 1 minute then taking their word as gospel the next.....
A person reading your posts would be as confused as the poor tech's....
I find it amusing that you think 2 little skies are the end of the world for Kawi to buy back and potentially use as examples in the resolution process....
get over yourself and ride more and complain less.... over and out....

Hi Chris, I’m sad you lost your skis but glad you had a good outcome. I hardly ever come on this forum unless someone is really stuck as I’m busy enough as it is doing what I do. The answer to your fault is indeed the fuel pump assembly, of course I looked inside the ecu mapping first and 1 billion percent it is not the ecu, because it’s unchanged. Having been the one who found that same fault you had and it was replacing the fuel pump assembly that fixed it, I offered a simple and quick solution to tell your tech. testing the fuel pump it specs out perfect, replacing it and the problem disappeared. The tech guys at kmc are great and most are friends of mine too, but they don’t always get to find the problems first, we in the field often do. And yes I’ve taken a phone call on your skis from hq, personally I’m hoping that if they are there when I come over for the mark hahn I’ll buy one of yours cheap, stick a pump in it and go race. Which leads me to the last answer - would I buy a 2019 ski = oh hell yes, I have, I will again, and if I get the chance I’ll pick up one of your old ones tooComment

Thank you for all your insight. My skis are sitting on a pile of tires at my local dealer,,, SAD 😥... I asked them to change the fuel pump assy, but if kawi got a bad batch how would they know if it meters out correctly.. Still not giving up on them asked dealers rep to follow up with me...

3 ecus and 3 different behaviors. The x was nearly perfect with the 2015 ecu the R was much better but not 100% so i know there's an underlying problem. If you spoke to them why wouldnt they just try a pump in the R. Cheap test.2020 Ultra310 R

Hey guys,
I admit I didn't go deep into researching past reading this thread, but in short does this mean we are better off purchasing a 2020 310r? Or 2019 310r is fine? (Though there is a risk of having bad fuel pump assembly?).
Thanks ahead of time!!
I can get $2500 off on a new 2019 versus 2020 and will go tat route no question unless there is reason not to.Comment

Having read through / followed this thread, it seems prudent to proceed with caution prior to buying a 2019 unit as there are potential issues. Is there a possibility to test ride the unit prior to buying? I defer to others, the original poster recommends not buying a 2019 unit as even Kawasaki could not determine what the issues were in the two skis. There is an indication the fuel pump part number has changed. That's a recap of what I gathered from this thread.
Best of luck with whatever ski you end up acquiring!Comment
