  • STX-15f Water box install help.

I have searched everywere but I cant seem to find this information out.

I installed the water box onto the exhaust pipe and it only slides on about 1/4 inch past the second ring is this correct or should it slide on further.

    any ideas would be great.

I'm referring to the silicon hose that couples the exhaust manifold and water box. Pics would go a long way if you could post some.

it's painful..liberal applications of silicone spray( and spit) help. I use my giant oil filter pliers to help a little. That's a stiffy for sure.

Well...KY jelly works, and it's water solvent! Nonflammable also.

You dont have the ring seated fully. Try it without the rings on it and post another picture.

well I took the end of the exhaust manifold apart and found lots of corrosion in the groves not allowing the rings to compress all the way. cleaned it out and fit perfect just like a glove but now I have a water leak at the exhaust manifold were the two peices bolt together. when I took it apart there was silicon on the metal gasket is this normal cause I used a new gasket and no silicon.

Take a piece of glass about 8" by 10" and tape a piece of 320 grit sandpaper to it and use that to smooth out the surface to remove any corrosion damage, check for flat by coloring it with a permanent marker. When you sand the low spots will retain the color while the high spots wont. Sand until you get it flat then use a thin smear or black rtv or copper gasket seal and bolt it back together.
