  • My 2017 SXR 1500 Project

Got back into the stand up game after 20 some years. Picked up a 17 SXR 1500 with about 15 hours on it. titled new in 18. Live in Michigan and picked it up on the east side of Cleveland. Gave it a quick buff out and took to my buddys place out in irish hills.

Handles pretty damn good for stock but wanted to try some aftermarket parts. Hooked up with Kirt from Watercross of Texas and got the ride plate and intake grate. Also hooked up with the guys from Prowatercraft and got some ADA 4 degree bars and ODI Vans grips.

Need to try the intake grate yet. Will be installing the Blowsion handlepole spring today as well. Next up is the Watercross of Texas sponsons and a set of Jet trim mats from Prowatercraft. This thread will be ongoing. Any questions, comments, tip, ideas etc are appreciated.

Some updated pics for those that would like to see more SXR 1500 stuff. Macboost air filter with breather filter. Have a tune coming as well. Think I will be going with a 93 octane tune from David Cabrera. Had a nice conversation with him as well. Waiting on my Watercross of Texas sponsons if the postal service could get their heads out of their asses and deliver them. Jettrim mat kit coming as well. Really would like to get that carbon hood from Freedom racing in Thailand. Going to be doing something special to the stock impeller. When its all said and done should be seeing 64/65 mph all day long and reliable. May also change out the pole. Looking at prowatercrafts prolite carbon pole and also going all out on a RRP set up. Stay tuned. If you like what you see or have questions go ahead and comment.

              Sub’ed.

Welcome, jefc and thanks for starting off a great thread!

I installed JC Racing sponsons on my ‘19 SXR 1500 *after* pulling it off the water for the winter so, I am looking forward to warmer weather, BIGLY!

So many mode mods needed and I have even less experience than I do spare time I am looking forward to (someday) mounting a new spring (how complicated is that?) but, really, the first thing I gotta do is chase down the cause of the left, red warning light staying on (NOT blinking). I don’t think it’s spark related as I swapped in new plugs while winterizing it and, damn light still comes on. I also need to install the bilge pump I bought for it but, holy cripes, looking inside the engine compartment, I am quite intimidated as to where the hell I might actually install ANYthing (it’s TIGHT in there!) (I know I want to mount the pump toward the rear, based on other threads here.)

Thanks again for starting a great thread; and, “Welcome!” again as well!

thanks Thor. Pull out the stock airbox and put in a macboost air filter and there is lots of room for a bilge pump. The spring is easy. Need to take out 3 of the 4 pole mount bolts and loosen the fourth so you can move it a bit so the pole mount bolt slides out without hitting on the ski. Slide the bolt most of the way out so you can get the stock spring out then wiggle the heavier spring in.

I like the JC racing sponsons as well and may try them. going with the whole Watercross of Texas setup first. Really want a lighter pole and possibly a lighter hood. The stock one is too heavy.

Thanks for the step-by-step! I don’t see how I cannot go with a better pole and spring, sooner than later. (Between “Mayhem” being in storage til April and holiday travel & spending, though ... gonna have to wait, ha-ha!). Our trips south to the Gulf coast of FL are slated to get longer and longer each year so, I see the possibility of my seasons getting extended (man, that’d be awesome!). I just wish there were more freshwater lakes to ride on, in FL ....

Those sponsons do look badazz, btw!

Yeah this isnt really a project but more of a 1500 build etc. Wanted to put this out there because there just isnt a lot of people doing this online for the SXR 1500. give people ideas etc on their own skis. Will have more soon. Purchased a mat kit from Jettrim. going to have the stock prop professionally kicked and a Cabrera motorsports 93 octane tune. Would like to get some sort of lightened shorter pole than stock and also really want that vented hood from Freedom Racing out of Thailand.

Got a Wamiltons customs hood coming in black. Wamilton is a great guy. Check out his business
                          www.wamiltons.com
Hood will shave off 16 pounds. With the stock airbox gone and a different handlepole should be at least 20 pound weight savings.
