  • 1992 Kawasaki 750 ss idle issue

Hello everyone I am new to the jet ski world and recently purchased a 1992 Kawasaki 750 ss in good condition. My problem is that I cant get it to idle. I cleaned the gas tank and added an in-line fuel filter (and got rid of the in tank ones). Cleaned and rebuilt the carb. My dad used to race 2-stroke motorcycles and has a good bit of knowledge. He originally thought it was the crab but when that didn't work he had the idea of a leaky carb gasket but after using gasket sealant (some red stuff used for diesel engines) we had no change. I bought a compression tester and it read 153 on cylinder 1 and 152 on cylinder 2. It will start with choke and run under throttle. When I let off it idles for a couple seconds and dies (But it will idle for a bit at half choke). We also trying tuning it by just turning the low speed until it ran ok and messed with the idle screw but couldn't get it working. I was hoping to get it out on the water this summer but I go to college in a day and don't have time but if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Have a good day.

    Welcome aboard, Jacc!

I really don't have any other ideas, except for damaged reeds or a crankcase leak or bad crankshaft seal. Sounds like you're on the right track with an air leak. You can run it on the hose and squirt oil all around the carbs & intake manifold. If it changes, you've found the leak. I would not use gasket sealer on the carbs, it just make a mess. Be sure to use OEM carb gaskets. They are rubber coated metal and can be re-used. It may be time to overhaul the carbs. Use ONLY genuine Keihin parts!

Don't forget, when you run it on the hose, start the engine, THEN turn on the water. Turn off the water, THEN turn off the engine. NEVER allow the water to run when the engine isn't running. Doing so will flood the engine with water.

Thank you for the advice. But do you think a new carb off ebay would be a good idea (maybe upgrade to dual carbs?) or just continue to trouble shoot? But I knew that I bought a hose valve so when im testing it I can turn it of when it dies.
