  • '04 STX-12F question

Hey guys, new to the site. I picked up a non-runner a couple of months ago and recently got it running (no fuel pump, battery, ignition switch, etc.). All of those items have been installed after a thorough tank clean with new plugs and it seems to be running strong. Throttle response is snappy, idles well, cooling system and overflow seem to be there (recently let it run idle for about an hour with a gallon of 91 non-ethanol and about an ounce of marine seafoam revving it up, killing and restarting). However, I don't have working instrumentation (which I may cave and overpay for one if I cannot fix it) and I have a hose coming from that area under it that doesn't connect to anything that I'm aware of. It has a plastic connector at the end and hangs down kind of close to the tank. I'm looking for a little guidance on this one since I wasn't able to find anything here.

Shop our large selection of 2004 Kawasaki JET SKI STX-12F (JT1200-B2) OEM Parts, original equipment manufacturer parts and more online or call at (231)737-4542

Any and all help is appreciated, love the website as I am told this place is the gold standard.

    Welcome aboard, BoneSaw!

I suspect that the hose is actually the vent for the tank. Look at the Fuel Tank parts drawing. It has a check valve and the end of the hose is open.

It's possible that your display can be salvaged. I had one of mine repaired by Performance Design, 407-790-5642 (he prefers texts). He charges $400.

There are also a couple of videos on YouTube that show you how to disassemble the display.

You might also be in SLO mode. I know I am cause my gauge is inop. Second one. Total garbage.

03 and 04 do not have slo mode, if you are using a newer 12f and it is stuck in slo mode, I can flash it to 04 spec which will fix that issue. I am currently running my 07 on an 04 ecu and its been great. The 07 was also one of the ones that melted pistons and has had no issue since rebuild on the 04 computer.

Thanks man, this site is a wealth of knowledge as I have been reading up on some of the tech guides, etc. Very helpful so far. No, this is for something else. I bought some hose and the 180* pipe fitting for the check valve that I picked up at the local AutoZone. See diagram below.

Here is the hose (with the white stripe):

          Sean,

That's excellent! Thank you very much for all that you do here sir.

The hose that connects to the pisser on the side has a fitting like that and runs from a nipple on the header up towards the front of the ski. Similar size and appearance to the fuel vent.

The fuel tank vent needs to run up through the grommet in the steering base plate and into the handle bar pad, it CANNOT be left loose in the hull.

Yes, the pisser on the side is fine.

Yeah? Then what is the metal tube for? Is that part actually in the steering base? I appreciate it!

Yep, the metal tube runs up and hooks over the handle bars between the bar clamps. It is covered by the bar cover. The U bend is to keep water from pooling in there under normal circumstances.

Update: Test run went well, this thing rips. Any idea if a hood from a 15F will fit my 12F? Thanks!

I had an '04 -12F and an '05 15F. I seem to remember that the mirror mounting was different.

After looking at the parts diagrams, the hoods are, indeed, different in shape, not just part number.
