DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING? I have a 2001 kawasaki 1100 stx di that I am fixing up. On the first start it does this. It would run strong for 5-30 seconds and then hits the rev limiter. I did not give it any throttle and when I did it did the same thing. I'm not sure how long it sat before I bought it so that might be a factor, but I doubt that's what caused it. I tuned down the idle to where it doesn't take off, it may be too low though. It still hits the rev limit even when just applying the slightest throttle. PLEASE let me know if you know any ideas!

Ficht direct fuel injected engines have the idle RPM controlled electronically via the EMM. How did you 'turn down the idle' ?
The Ficht EMM uses a throttle position sensor to know when the throttle lever is being squeezed.
If you unplug the TPS sensor does the engine now start and idle properly? It will not rev since the TPS is disconnected.
It is possible the TPS has failed internally and is sending incorrect throttle signals to the EMM.
The Kawasaki Ficht system is very similar to Ficht on Polaris.

I just adjusted the throttle cable to where the idle screw made contact with the throttle body. it was idling way too high before, explaining the runway at idle. But it still will revvery high when given just the smallest amount of throttle. I unplugged the tps and it ran perfectly but didn't rev with throttle. I tried ajusting the tps and got it to output 0.2 volts at idle (in specified range with manual (0.2 +- 0.1 volts) but would only reach about 3.5 volts full throttle (lower than specified range (3.75~4.0 volts). I checked the input voltage and it read 4.9 volts (in specified range with manual (approx. 5.0 volts). when I adjusted the tps as close as I could to the full throttle specified range, it bogged and poured out white smoke and the idle voltage was way out of range (close to 0.5 volts) explaining why it wouldn't rev out of idle. I tried to find the sweet spot bot it was either too much or too little. do you think its bad?Comment

@Jaydens_32, the TPS is the first suspect. Have you tried reading the voltage when the engine revs up by itself? Have you tried running it with the TPS unplugged to see if it still does it? EDIT: I see that you stated that the engine didn't surge with the TPS unplugged.
