  • 15F Cant Idle... TPS??

Ok guys so for the past few weeks my engine has almost stalled when I let off the throttle suddenly from high rpm. Then after a few outings it got worse and would sometimes stall when suddenly letting off throttle at high rpm.

Well yesterday it effectively lost its ability to idle without me squeezing the throttle just a tiny bit. Every time I let off the throttle it shuts off. If I hold the throttle just a tiny tiny bit, it will idle just fine at the usual idle rpm... But let off and it stalls...

It starts up just fine every time after it stalls. Compression it good. RPMs are good (3 bars past 7K). Acceleration is insane. It's almost like my idle adjustment bolt on the throttle body was turned out too much but I checked and it looks fine.

So what are your guys thoughts? Has this happend to anyone before?
    Throttle Position Sensor maybe???

    Thanks for any help...

check the idle control motor on top of the throttle body, it that isnt opening and closing then thats your problem

Is there an easy way to check the idle control motor?

And whats this about a recall?

Mine has been doing it for about a while now. I just have learned to pretty much just hold a little throttle when coming down fron a higher RPM. I did notice that when this started the smart steer quit working. It idles fine and also if I am at idle and just hit the throttle hard to clear the exhaust it won't die but as he said WOT to just letting off, yep it will die. I just learned to deal with it when the dealership said nothing was wrond twice.

confirm your base idle screw on the TBody hasn't back off/worn a mark in the cable holder bit.
imagine its been getting slammed shut for the llast 180hr, thing change shape abit

as the system requires a certian amount of mechanical idle speed , it doesnt rely fully on the IAC

best way is to check that TPS voltages are as per manual specs
at OEM rpm settings, if the voltage is low good chance it need bumping up

also ensure your TB is clean, remove inlet hose and if it is all black and gunked up byuy some TB clean and also clean IAC circuit if required
at 180hr could be a good start point, as older engine breath more.

DO NOT SPRAY ANYTHING IN THE IDLE AIR CONTROLER,YOU WILL BE REPLACING IT IF YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take it into the dealer, i suppose the smart steer could have a problem too.

Been spraying X55 solvents in IAC circuts for the last 20 years on cars, bikes, kawasaki skiies etc.
Long before wet bikes even thought about EFI system's
But hey what would I know.

Smart steering holds the IAC open not shut, so don't see it causing a stall issue

I do it all the time on Honda cars. Some idle control motors you can save once they stick (mechanically), some you can't. And on at least 08 15f there was a throttle body/plate recall as they did it last year to my wife's before i picked it up new.

The Honda cars I haven't had much experience with. Tried that with some of the domestic models and some of the mercedes and it shorts out the electrical end of it. maybe Honda has a better design there lol. I talked to a friend of mine that works at the local dealer here and the idle problem could very well be in the computer, He has seen it on 260's and 1 15f. Said its a reflash of the ecm and problem solved.

So does anyone know where I can get my ecm flashed for a reasonable price? (ie under $30.00)

Btw about how long does it take a tech at the dealer to do this ecm flash? How much ACTUAL time spent? Cuz I just know my dealer will try to rape me for at least an hour of labor (~$90.00) for something that prob only takes 10 minutes... Remember, I'm the poor bastard who got charged $180.00 for two bottles of ring-free and a 'have a nice day'. @ssholes!

The dealer where the friend of mine works said usually around a half hour to do it, but definetly no more than a hour. You might consider taking it to a more reputable shop, or a less greedy one. I have seen him do one of the 260's and it was only about 20 minutes. I guess it depends on which reflash they do.

Does anyone know what part in the throttle body controlls the Kawasaki Smart Steering when you suddenly let off the throttle and turn and it automatically gives more rmp to help you turn??

My smart steering isnt working either anymore so maybe this is the bad part that's contributing to the failure to restart after its been riden for a while???

                              DOES ANYONE KNOW??
