  • To Solas...Or Not To Solas ( and some other stuff)

    Hey Guys,

Been awhile but wanted to throw a quick post up hoping the pros on the forum can really summarize some of the threads I have already read...

With the 310 coming out I wanted to put the 14/21 solas on my stock 2011 300x. I have read threads on the poor/inconsistent build quality of this impellor ...any real truth to that?

From a reliability standpoint from the stock impellor...am I going to lose anything here?

Last one, I have heard discussion on using the rubber vs metal grommet..is this the preffered?

Glad to be back on the forum...any insight greatly appreciated.

As far as the Solas I have not have had any issues and have been using them all along since new. I personally swear by it.

I also only use the rubber nose piece. Have seen the metal ones come unscrewed too often.

I bought a Solas 14/21 that had a splined insert that would not fit the drive shaft. The vendor (Powersport Superstore) was absolutely worthless! Amazon eventually refunded the purchase price (minus shipping), and I never heard back from Solas. Overall it was a VERY bad experience, and I reinstalled the stock Impeller. The fella at Impros told me it is not the first time he has heard/encountered such an issue, and he checks every Impeller he ships. If I were to buy another Solas product I would buy it from a reputable vendor (Impros).

      Good Luck!

That may be why I have always had good luck. All my impellers have come from reputable people.
Solas Concord Impellers increase low-end thrust and top-end speed. Constructed of high strength stainless steel, Solas Impellers feature a polished hub and exclusive hub-end water seal for reduced cavitation.

cant get more reputable than Jerry.

Two quick off topic maint questions....

          1) SC belt is original..102 hrs...worth having it replaced..my dealer says it looks good?
          2) pump bearing are original...same thing dealer did pump inspection and says all is good?

..I ride as rec rider ONLY and wanna ensure my 0 problem experience since new on the 300 for the 2014 season...

          Thanks!

            I would say......
belt- just let it ride. I know people that have the original belt still on their 2011. If you are not a hard rider or don't ride offshore conditions it will last longer usually than hard abuse. With only 100 hours in 3 years I think your riding time will be safe next winter you can just change it and put on a spare. That way you run it till it breaks then just put on the spare.

Pump- I would remove the pump just free the impeller from the splines and inspect everything. Not that it is a common thing for the impeller to seize to the shaft but never know if something foreign got in there. Also remove the cavitation cone and make sure there is no water in the bearing housing and the O-Ring on it is still good.

Keep in mind that just because it's stamped 14/21 doesn't necessarily mean it's that pitch. Every solas prop I've bought has been out (not very consistent). My 15/22 had an actual pitch of 14.7/ 23.8. Like LG said, the rubber boot is the better option.

Haaaa Corey I think Mal was trying to put you off when he used his wiz bang wrap around measuring tool from ebay lol.

Every prop I buy before I test it, I send it up to Yan with the pump and he gives me a true pitch, then sends it back to me. Mal just wanted to use your prop for 12 months.
