  • 2012 300x Surging Under Load

Hi hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.

Few weeks ago took the 300x out and had no issues at all. Took it out again yesterday and I noticed some surging at high RPM (6000rpm+). Didn't take too much notice of it but as time went on the surging become worse and worse to the point that I was unable to tow with it and I had to call it a day as it was even surging at 3500rpm.

Initially it was just surging when 2 bars of boost was coming on but now it just seems to surge under any heavy load and no boost.

I was also finding that just before the surging would start I was getting a symbol with 3 circles coming up on the dash. Manual says its got something to do with Economival Riding Indicator?

So far i've visually impected in the hull and dont see anything that looks out of place and no sign of any belts slipping. I've checked spark plugs and they also look good and are gapped at .025in.

Appeciate if anyone has some ideas to throw out to me for me to invistigation. Thanks.

Im following this cause my 2012 has been doing a similar little surging too but its when Im hard accelerating or immediately accel after letting off. Its almost like its in a limp mode but if I let off for a sec and ease into it itll take off normal.

Sounds like perhaps the belt tensioner needs to be lubricated.

Try new plugs. I have never had any piece of mechanical equipment in my life that has had stock a short plug life as the 300 and 310 Kawasaki.
they can look like new, you can try cleaning them, but they still break down under load, particularly above 6000rpm.

For those that are interested I've found the fuel pump to be on the way out. Tested this by connecting up a fuel pressure tester to the fuel rain and I can see the fuel pressure when under load is dropping below 30 psi. Anyone know what the fuel pump part number is? Also looking at replacing the fuel regulator too whilst i got the pump out, anyone know that part number too?

Mine has been getting worse. Took it out Sunday and I damn near had to idle it back to the launch. Im starting with plugs (theyll be here today) then the next step is test the pump. According to partzilla p/n is 49040-3720 and its $574.

You don't have to buy the entire pump assembly. First, inspect the rubber hose inside the pump for damage. Next, search online for the pump motor. Quantum probably has it, and you can probably find dozens on Ebay.

Thanks! It appears to be a standard automotive design. Ive got 2 or 3 laying around my garage.

Check the pressure before you try it on your injection system. I think it should be 43 PSI coming out of the regulator. I guess the regulator could be bad.

Speaking of fuel issues, I'm about to put the real (not counterfeit) Walbro GSS342 in the fuel pump assembly. I got the accessory kit too. Is it as simple as advertised? Any soldering involved? Any way to get the leads reversed/make pump run backwards? I'd really like to NOT have to dig it back outta there to switch leads around.

Everybody gone nordo? Walbro pump seems fatter, only goes in housing about 1/2 way before it stops/gets stuck. Been sanding on inside of housing trying to make it smoother so it'll go, no luck yet. Could probably heat the housing and it would go in, but somehow putting a torch to a device that's had/has gasoline in it doesn't sound too smart! Ideas?

It doesn't slide in? Don't the wires have a plug that goes into the motor?

'nordo' -- You must be a pilot.
