  • I have an off the wall question curious if anyone knows the answer.
At what RPM is the peak HP on the NA engines. I feel this would be some good information to know so we could pitch our impellers accordingly.

    • I never had an aftermarket tach on the 15f....

      • I just decided between the 2 also, and I went with a 2010 Ultra LX over a 2011 STX 15 $8200 out the door with a Warranty til 2016. My dealer says it will do 60. I am not picking it up til May 1st, but I am going to chastise him for lyeing to me. I have not seen 1 post how a stock Ultra LX will do over 55. With that said, you have made my decision for me. I will be riding my kids 9 and 5 on it, and I definately am glad I got what I got. Thannks for all the replies, and I am going to enjoy riding this over my dinosaur 1994 Polaris SLT 750.

        • That was what I mOved up from except a 95. Your family will thank you. My lx has been great under my care

          • Dealers all lie through their teeth in my experience, I know of 2 separate dealers local to me that stated that the ultra 250 would do 95 if you de-limited it.

The lx is much better for a family ski than the 15, and I love my stx. For reliability if properly maintained you can't beat the 1.5 na kawi motor.

The older I get, the more I find myself fixing things that I knew I was doing correctly at the time.

            • That is my goal. We are on a small 2 lake system in Lower Michigan, so I could have gotten away with the stx 15, but I really don't care about speed. My neighbor has 2 of the turbo doos, so if I want to go 75, I will use his. I just wanted something that will get good gas mileage, pull tubes, and having a cooler is a must if I bring the wife(for my own sake)

If I could say just a single word about myself it would be, I don't do what I'm told very well.

                • I pull my pump apart today to replace bearings. Bearings were soaked in water and shot. Don't know if I should replace the housing, The book says replace if it has deep scratches. Are these deep scratches?

go buy some WET & DRY sand paper , some 240, 400, 600

and starting from the rough paper using water , evenly go around and sand the liner , If you find that their are no BIG gouges in the liner I would say you will be OK ( the housing are cheap if you do have big marks )

those ugly dark patcth's are where the prop has been contacting the liner due to the bad bearings ,

Sometimes you can be lucky and just clean it up, it will always have some neat grooves line a LP / record for example

The scratches didn't look deep to me but wasn't really shore. This is my first pump rebuild.
Thanks for the info much appreciated.

                      • Will a solas impeller on an otherwise stock 12f make a noticable difference? Is there a better way to spend my $$$

                        • If the stock one is in good shape just keep it. Unless you are doing some serious mods the 12f impeller is fine.

I put a solas 14/21 on my 2006 12F.....ski is somewhat slower out of the hole, but top speed is up 2-3 mph, but what i like is one can cruise at 40mph with alot less RPM...better fuel mileage, longer engine life, etc, etc......after that, i did stop using the right side muffler, less backpressure, a little louder , I added fuel extra to the sysem, as less back pressure leans it out.
                            Awaiting a shredmaster rideplate.
water temp is low now ~45F, "1000 Islands" region NY/Canada border.....so I installed a restrictor in the water line return from engine to keep water in the engine longer, so the engine and oil operates at normal temperatures....will remove the modification as water temps rise this summer.

I learned a long time ago that it is not worth answering those kinds of questions or disclose much....people should do their own research, do the work themselves, instead of following others.
simplisitic stuff...higher pitch prop....less rpm, the goal was to cruise at 40-45 mph with less rpm than stock....achieved, just so happened to gain a few mph up top, bonus!
regardless....... if its GPS, stupidmeter, dreamometer, whatever.....do 1 change at a time and test in in the most similar conditions possible to get the most objective evaluation.....I deal in %'s.......everything else is less reliable, including GPS.
