  • The ECU is different. I wish they would have all the features on the "cruiser" models. That would make the Ultra LX just that much more of the perfect Rec ski.

    • I think the ecu is the same part but it has a different program, I know the old lx was the same as the 250 but the 300 may be different im not positive. I'm pretty sure the harness is different though. If I can get my hands on a trim motor and switch unit I could wire up a basic controller that would plug and play.

      • They have different part numbers. Different tunes. Different features. How are they the same?
Lastly the LX is not fly by wire?

        • No on the 250 and old lx, I said I don't know about the new lx and 300.

I distinctly remember thinking about how strange it was though it was several years ago.

          • Thanks guys!!! Wife is loving the Ultra....she hasn't asked for cruise or wake assist...or even know what they are But I thought I would ask if it could be done easily. Went out today...hopped in the water with mask and saw a sea turtle...pretty cool!

Great ski, very reliable, handles the chop good. I have to run premium fuel in my 06 12f I would assume the same for the 09 15f but not sure. No adjustable trim.

Both the 12f and 15f will run on regular 87 octane but it is safer to use 93.

                    • Intermittent no spark

Need some help with a unusual situation.
Last season in ingested water into my 2007 Ultra LX and threw a rod out the lower case. Purchased an insurance salvage 2010 15f with 32 hours on the motor. Over the winter Tim Zarnsdorf, of Zforce Racing, installed the 15f motor into my Lx. The only part from the old motor that was used in the new motor was the timing wheel since it had been cut to provide a 5 degree timing advance. Tim noted that the timing wheel from the 2010 had a different design than the 2007 but said that it shouldn't matter since we were using the 2007 ecu.
The issued we are having is that the ski won't start for the first ride of the day. Upon investigation we found that the ski wasn't producing spark even though we had a new battery. If a second battery was jumpered to the primary battery the engine would start. Once the engine was warmed up it would start the rest of the day without issue and runs flawlessly.
I'm using NGK iridium spark plugs and have done the following mods to the ski
                      1. 5 degree timing advance
                      2. Secondary muffler bypass with a straight pipe.
                      3. K&N filter and straight pipe on the intake.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing the non spark when the motor is cold and hasn't been started for a while?
                      Dave

                      • Ok what ecu and timing wheel are you using, this is very important. How many teeth does it have?

Both the timing wheel and ECU are what came stock on the 2007 LX. From memory the wheel had 10-12, 2" long teeth and has been notched to advance the timing 5 degrees. Tim showed me the wheel from the 2010 15f and it was a totally different configuration with only about 6 shorter teeth spaced further apart.

                            • We assumed that using the timing wheel that came with the ecu would not cause a problem.

It shouldnt. What you need to be sure of is that the wheel is centered. The 15f crank is slightly larger in diameter than the lx crank where the wheel mounts. I doubt thats your issue though. I would check the starter motor mounts on the cases. Remove the starter and clean where it attaches and clean any corrosion off where the ground cable attaches, then put dielectric grease on it. That should help the starting issue.
