I couldn't find anything specific on the forums about removing the stock handle cover and covering the handlebar mounting screws with a protective pad. The STX stock handlebars.. like many other skis have no place to attach anything.. unless you buy an aftermarket set and install them. However, this wasn't my goal. I wanted to use the stock handlebars and still have a safe ride. So this is what I came up with:
Step 1: Remove the plastic cover by taking out the 4 Philips head screws on the top and bottom. They come out sorta easy. You'll need to push and unscrew to get them loose.
Step 2: Remove the foam cover and pop the small alarm speaker out of the foam. Cautious, it's in there and will separate easily.
Step 3: Group the wires that are now exposed together with a single zip-tie and make sure to include the alarm speaker.
Step 4: Remove the mounting bracket that held the plastic handlebar cover on the bars. Two 10m bolts hold this bracket on, remove and reattach the bolts for safe keeping (in case you ever sell the ski and need to revert back to stock
Step 5: Clean up the bars with some rust remover (I hadn't done this in the picture I took below) - give it a cleaner look - or you can paint them. Whatever you prefer!
Step 6: Any 1/8 Fat handlebar Cover will almost directly fit on the stock handlebar mounting bracket. You need to cover this.. and this was my situation was finding one that fit well.. I've included the link to the one I ordered that fit perfectly

Also searching for a SOLID phone mount that fit the handlebars was also a task. I've included the universal mount that will fit most phones on the market.

And in case anyone is curious about the Waterproof case I ordered in the picture. It's for a Note 9 and that particular company makes great, inexpensive cases for all phones. Check them out!

Admins: Move this to the correct location if this isn't the proper place!
Hope this helps someone!
