  • Diagnostic Cable - MapTuner X

    Hi all,

I have the diagnostic cable for the Maptuner X but I am not sure where the heck to plug it in while the ski is on for live logging and info. Is this possible? If so, does anyone have a pic of where to plug it in?

    Sorry for the n00b question.

Did you look for online instructions for the diagnostic feature?

Going from fuzzy memory I am thinking it connects to the dash cluster data connector over the fuel tank, up front.

Based on the SBT documentation, that is correct. Going to check that this weekend.

yes, that's correct, all the relevant data goes to the cluster, watch yourself there, the plastic has sharp edges ( thank me later) don't forget to plug the cluster back in when wrapping it up

DO they make a Y cable so the cluster can work, and the maptunerx can read the data at the same time?

and can the maptuner record any short data logs with out the big data logger adapter for widebands?

You ever find anything about this Y cable? I am looking for the same sort of thing

Not me, I don't have a maptuner. But seams it would be easy to make. Buy the right 3 connectors (either 2 male, and one female, or 2 female and one male)

then make a 3 way wiring harness and make sure pins line up. should send signals to both the map tuner and the gauges. But weather it works like that I don't know.

I made a Y cable and the maptuner wont connect while plugged into the dash.. What a shame, I really wanted it to work.

Same here. I made it and when I connected the dash in second the maptuner values went completely off the scale. I'm sure, even before I tried it, if it worked Riva would have already hade them for sale.

My admittedly limited understanding so far is that the ECU communication with the connector to the dash uses K-line data protocol ONLY when connected to a diagnostic device. So CANDooPro or MaptunerX when being used for diagnostics can use K-line to talk to the ECU. When the diagnostic unit is unplugged, the ECU ceases K-line protocol.

I suspect that when the factory dash is re-plugged into the dash connector the ECU senses the dash device and then uses a different enough (or entirely different) data protocol to send info to the dash.

I do not (yet) know how the dash communication protocol works, nor whether it might be possible for the ECU to duplex both protocols at the same time (I suspect not).

Related note, the touch screen dash introduced on the 2021 GP1800R does not use the 'dash' connector at all, it is capped off in the wire harness. The touch screen seems to be connected to the ECU via a different communications link. I have not looked into whether it might be possible to electrically retrofit the 2021 touch screen dash into a pre-2021 GP1800 (setting aside whether it would physically fit).

I have seen some people do it on facebook, It can be done. That would be really nice. If Im not mistaken, they were able to add cruise pretty easily too.

This year, I think I will be getting a fueltech system and working on making that work properly. Even if I have to use an arduino board to control trim and the reverse bucket and use reverse like a seadoo.

What exactly was done, with which model and year ECU?
