What’s the difference between Polaris sl750 and Polaris slt750 also is a 1994 Polaris sl750 a good ski

SL means "Sea Lion". SLT would be a Sea Lion Three person. So, 2 seater vs a 3 seater.

      Welcome.

I suppose it depends on what you are wanting from the ski.

Polaris began making PWC in 1992, so 1992 and 1993 were the early learning years.

By 1994 Polaris had made many improvements. 1994 had a simplified cooling system, a better modular 148mm jet pump, and other changes and improvements. This became the foundation for Polaris PWC popularity through the 1990’s

The two person (2-seater) SL hull is compact and playful on the water. The hull is quite stout.

I will presume that you are new to PWC and hopefully willing to learn, and do the work yourself. These are thirty year old watercraft. From any brand, machines this old will require repairs, maintenance, and quite probably some things will need to be rebuilt. The blue Fuji engine is a solid design. They can be rebuilt, and indeed by now many have been rebuilt multiple times.

This forum has always been the best place to find information and people willing to help get your Polaris PWC ready for the water, and get it back on the water after problems occur.

Check it over, make sure all the pieces that are supposed to be there actually are present. Sometimes people remove things over the years. Or break things and just leave them broken.

Check cylinder compression. Throttle held wide open, all spark plugs out, strong battery
You want to see similar compression readings on each cylinder, less than 10% delta between highest and lowest cylinders.

Assume that at some point the engine will need to be rebuilt. At the age these things are now, who knows what care or abuse has happened in the past or how many running hours have happened since the most recent engine rebuild.

Expect to spend some time and effort checking many things. Servicing things, doing upgrades where known issues can occur.

Original rubber seals may have age hardened, so look at everything with a shaft seal. The jet pump has shaft seals inside to keep water away from the steel bearings. Check the jet pump condition, removing it from the hull.

Polaris revised the oil pump to be variable rate, but I have forgotten which model year that happened. So check the service manual. If 1994 is supposed to have variable rate oil pump, look for the mechanical linkage to be present.

For a while it was considered a ‘good idea’ to remove/delete the oil injection system. If this was done then the oil pump is supposed to be entirely removed and a block-off plate installed. If the oil pump was left in place but simply disconnected from the hoses, then the oil pump has been running ‘dry’. Which is not a good thing.

My own advice is to retain the factory oil injection system. The Polaris oil pump is quite durable. The primary point of failure was the original factory oil hoses eventually becoming hard and cracking or falling off. Replace with new hoses and proper clamps, it tends to work quite well. The variable rate oil pump reduces oil consumption and reduces exhaust smoke at low speeds without affecting engine lubrication at higher speeds.
