  • 2004 MSX 110 w/75 hours, PART IT or FIX IT?

Should I save this ski or part it out??
I bought this 2004 MSX110 with three other skis from my local Yamaha/Polaris dealer, all in unknown running condition. This ski had been sitting under a tree for years and was filthy when I got it. I put a battery in it, checked the oil, and it fired right up and idled perfect. I rechecked the oil and it was milky looking, it was not run on the hose and the coolant level did not change. My plan was to part it out, BUT I washed the ski and it is in REALLY nice condition with only 75 hours. So MSX people, should I save this ski, and why?? If I do fix it, the ski will probably be sold because I have 3 skis already and do not need a 4th. I drained the oil and will put new oil in and see if the oil gets milky again. After reading up I suspect the cyclone may be causing the water and oil to mix. I'll perform compression and leak-down tests today and see what those tests reveal.

That looks too clean to part out, in my opinion. If you were closer, I'd be interested.

I had purchased two MSX150s new and sold them both when they had approximately 60 hours on each. In my opinion, they fulfill the definition of the two best days in a boat owner's life: the day you purchase and the day you sell. The Weber engine can be and often is a real money pit and these are anything but easy to service and maintain. The oil tank needs to be replaced with the updated version--which is now NLA. The nikasil plating, of the cylinder walls, is a known common failure. The ECU should be re-mapped to correct the known rich run. The water pump impeller is known to fail. I cut my losses and sold both before doing any of that.

Well I did a compression test and it is not good news. Mag 110, PTO 60. There's more bad news, I pulled the valve cover and found that if you let it sit for 6 or 7 years with milky oil the engine parts get rusty. So this engine is getting pulled and the good parts will be sold.

Interested in selling as-is since most of the valuable/sellable parts look wrecked? It’s a nice looking ski.

it is a very nice looking ski, it will be a shame to cut it up but that is what will happen to it. I only got a bill of sale with it, I was planning to register it if it was repairable. Here in NY it isn't difficult to register a ski with missing papers. Since the engine is shot and it is not cost effective to repair it, I'm forced to sell any good parts and scrap the hull

I might just pull the engine and electronics then store the hull until I come across a running ski, like a 4tec SeaDoo, then do a conversion ski

If you’d be interested in selling it whole, Shoot me a message and let me know what it’s worth to you. I’d buy that thing and fix it to add to the collection. Down here, aesthetically the skis go to hell in a handbasket from the sun in a ride-365 environment. You can’t fix ugly, but the engine I can fix easy enough.

That’s a great looking 110. Would be a shame to scrap it. We can have fresh power in it in a matter of hours. I agree with Salty, sell it whole or reposed it
