  • Reseal Pump Shoe

After searching for the last hour or so, I give up....

How the heck do you remove the pump shoe on an SL hull in order to reseal it?

Bolt the pump back on and wiggle it side to side. Maybe gently pry to the side with a piece of 2x4

Thought he was talking about the pump shoe/wear ring not the inlet scoop.

      NO!!!!!!!!

      Remove the pump.

stick a long 2x4 on edge through the shoe and push down. (make sure the trailer doesn't tip up)

      It will come.......

      Reinstall:

Clean the old silicone off all the parts REALLY well. (hull and shoe) Wipe down with a degreaser.

Apply a continuous 1/2" bead of QUALITY marine grade silicone (3M 4200 or 5200) around the shoe.

Install the shoe and then immediately bolt the wear ring back in place (do not forget to install the large O ring between the 2 parts)

Wipe off any excess silicone and let cure.
My ski says made in the U.S.A...... Can yours say that???

This is what I thought I had read, but when I tried it, it seemed like it took a LOT of pressure and didn't even budge a little. I don't want to break the pump shoe or the hull. How much pressure does it take? Also, where should I stick the end of the 2x4?

You have removed the four stud nuts that hold it to the hull - yes?

Edit: I was talking more about the studs for the pump base, than the shoe...
I didn't fully realize you had the pump base off already

            Umm.....

I did not realize that the studs actually went through it. Good thing I didn't try too hard to force it out.

Remove the four stud NUTS, not 'stud bolts' - my bad.

Review the 'Propulsion' parts diagram for your model and year.

I got the pump assembly out, it is the 'inlet scoop' (as Polaris calls it) that I need to remove and reseal. I thought I was going nuts thinking that I missed something as simple as removing the studs, but when I looked again they don't seem to be anywhere near holding the 'inlet scoop' on. Maybe I need some pics....

It takes alot of pressure to break the silicone seal.

Don't be afraid of breaking the shoe or the hull (that hull takes an eromous beating when wave jumping, you're not going to damage it prying aginst it with a 2x4)

If you do, I'll give another shoe.

Try not to wedge the 2x4 in the thru hull recess. Get the board under the bottom of the hull and push. If it doesn't budge, get a longer 2x4.

What is the difference between 3M 4200 and 3M 5200?

3M's Fast Cure 4200 has half the strength of 5200, which (with some effort) allows for disassembly of parts. A bond created with 3M 5200 may last forever, so you are in a pickle if you later decide to separate the two surfaces.J
