  • 2004 MSX 110 - got new weber plastic oil tank, but not sure how to plumb it

Hi, I had milky oil/ pancake batter in my engine (raw water/ oil - antifreeze is clean). took out the oil tank and it rattles badly. I ordered a new version of tank on ebay (plastic tank, weber says they are out of stock on those). The tank came but the plumbing is a bit different - the small cyclone seems integrated. Online it shows that there is also a rollover tank available to add but I am wondering if anybody installed this new oil tank without the roll over tank - what hoses do I need to change/ extend?

there is one hose that comes from engine to top of old metal tank (oil) - and the new plastic tank doesn't have that center top connection at all.

has anybody done that? I am new to MSX 110, didn't expect this to be that complicated.

    thanks,

    Welcome,
Did you pressure test your stock oil tank (the water jacket side) to confirm it is leaking into the oil chamber?
I've seen a few oil tanks with loose baffles in them that didn't leak water into the oil. That said... when they do go bad... they surely can leak water into the oil.

I have taken just the upgraded oil tank (and roll-over tank) and DIY'ed it into my ski w/o the full kit (that used to be offered).

See the attached guide I created:

Regarding not using the roll-over tank (white tank in pic). There are 2 connections to it from the main oil tank. You can't just plug these hoses, so I think you need some sort of catch can. The emissions recirc hose (back to "airbox") can be left off. And the roll-over tank drain back to the sump can be plugged (in the block)... but the other 2 hoses off the main tank need a connection.

thanks very much, this is what I was after. I don't have the white plastic tank and all the other hoses - just the new black main oil tank. this helps, i will try to see what i can come up while not even using the rollover tank.

one more hose i'm puzzled with is the one that goes from engine to center top of the old oil tank. Its screwed in with a bolt that has oil passage ways. the new plastic tank doesn't have that center top connection point at all.

i should have read everything in detail, the last page speaks to eliminate that line. thanks.

I've thought more about the roll-over (white) tank. If you eliminate the emissions vapor recirc hose back to the "airbox"... and eliminate the oil drain-back hose to the block (plugging the block port)... then that only leaves 2 hoses... that you can see in the previous picture (left side of assembly).

These both come off the built-in oil separator/cyclone. The top hose would be for the separated vapors and the bottom hose would be for the separated liquid oil (purple hose in pic). I would think you could easily plumb these into any sort of vented oil catch can... like I do with the stock, oem round oil tanks.

            Cheers!
