1996 polaris slt 780 CDI box

  • 1996 polaris slt 780 CDI box

    Hey i was wondering if you could help me. I just changed out my switch magnetic which is located in the CDI box and now there is no fire going to the Jet ski when i push the start button i was going to see if you know whats wrong with it?

    Best thing is to create a new thread in the General Polaris section, rather than piggyback (hijack) another member's thread.

    A moderator may move your post to a new thread

    Make sure the thin red wire is connected to the solenoid terminal where the heavy red wire connects from the battery.

    If you have the thin red wire on the other heavy red terminal, you will not have power to the electrics.

      Sounds like the ground wire for the electrical box is not connected to the battery negative.

      Is there a thin black wire that is not connected to anything, just hanging out of the electrical box?

      If yes, then that thin black wire should be connected to the battery negative terminal, along with the heavy black wire that connects to the engine block.

        ............

        It connected.... the yellow and red wire comming from relay it plugs in to the circuit board. Does it plug in beside the yellow and red wire comming from the starter switch or does it plug into the post marked yellow and red on the circuit board which is beside the starter switch plug?

          Both Yellow/Red wires should connect to the Yellow/Red terminals on the terminal board.

          Each terminal on the terminal board is marked with the wire color that should connect there.
          Check that no wires are connected to a terminal of the wrong color.

          Disconnect the battery positive cable.

          Use a multi-meter to confirm that the Black terminals in the electrical box measure zero ohms to the engine block.

          Also check that the engine block measures zero ohms to the battery negative post.

          Set the multi-meter to measure DC volts.
          Reconnect the battery positive cable.
          Put one meter probe on the battery negative post. Put the other meter probe on the Black terminals inside the electrical box.
          The meter should read zero volts. Press the Start button.
          Does the meter voltage change? It should remain well under 1.0 volts.

            Make sure the ground "jumper" from the grounding block is attached to the coil hold down bolt, as well as the CDI ground.

            Also make sure you have the lanyard installed.
            My ski says made in the U.S.A...... Can yours say that???

              ok so the red and yellow wire comming from the switch magnetic was pluged into the wrong place we fixed that problem. Now it turns over but when u push the start button and let go its still trying to turn over even when ur not pushing it. Why is that?

                Check the Red and Red/Purple wire connections. Make sure nothing else is on an incorrect terminal.

                It is possible the start solenoid (magnetic switch) is failing.

                How are you stopping it from cranking?

                  I'm just taking the positive away from the battery post and it kills it. I think it might be the Button sticking but if thats not it what else could be wrong?

                    You have replaced the solenoid module inside the electrical box - correct?

                    Disconnect the heavy red cable that goes between the solenoid and the starter motor. Disconnect that cable at the solenoid.

                    Now you should have just one heavy red cable from the battery connecting to one stud on the solenoid.

                    There should also be a thin red wire from that same stud going to the Reset button circuit breaker.
                    Confirm that this is correct.

                    There will also be a thin Yellow/Red wire, going from the solenoid to the Yellow/Red terminal on the terminal board.

                    There should be one other Yellow/Red wire connected to that Yellow/Red terminal. That wire goes to the Start button on the handlebar.

                    The solenoid also has a ground connection, which should be solidly connected to the Black wire group on the terminal board. Confirm that this solenoid ground connection is electrically correct.

                    Now the starter motor will not work, since it is disconnected.

                    Do you have a multi-meter to check voltages and ohms?

                    Connect the Black probe to the battery negative post (not the engine block).

                    Connect the other meter probe to the solenoid terminal that has no other wires. Set the meter for DC volts.

                    Press the Start button. The voltage reading should jump up to battery voltage (about 12.x volts), and you should hear the solenoid click.

                    Now release the start button, you should hear the solenoid release, and the meter reading should drop to zero volts.

                    Report what happens when you do this test.
