Just got a 2004 msx 150 cb. The ski runs great and I want advise on how to set up the ski for towing behind a boat. Any help would be apriciated.

    Welcome

The primary preparation for towing the PWC at any speed above dead slow is to clamp off the water feed hose from the jet pump.

When the PWC engine is running normally, the jet pump supplies water under pressure to cool the engien. Some of that water is spray injected into the echaust flow, to cool the exhaust so the large rubber exhaust hoses don't burn, and to muffle the exhaust noise in the water box.

When the hull is towed at speed, the jet pump still develops some pressure in the cooling system, and water is injected into the exhaust system. However, since the engien is not running, there is no exhaust flow to blow the water out. The water accumulates in the exhaust, and eventually backs up right into the engine itself through the exhaust ports.

For ease of use, I would suggest you install a shut-off valve in the main water feed hose from the jet pump. That would be the fitting way down low on the right side of the jet pump base, inside the hull (when looking down into the engine bay from behind the ski). It is a 3/4 inch diameter hose.

The other issue is making very sure that the shut-off valve or hose pinch clamp is opened up before you next run the PWC engine. Otherwise, it will overheat in short order.

Note: This issue is the same with virtually all brand and model PWC.

People also add an in-line strainer after the valve too. it will collect any debris trying to enter the engine. If the strainer is before the valve and it has a problem, youll sink, keep it after the shut off valve so if it breaks, you can still shut the water off with the valve.

The biggest reason to put the strainer after the valve is so if you do suck up a bunch of sand/junk. You can seal the water from coming in when you remove the bowl to clean it.I wouldn't run a strainer unless I was running pissers. You can plug one with sand and overheat a motor before you'd even know it if you missed the warning light on the MFD, with pissers you should notice it right away.

On your MSXtreme, that would be the reduced side thrust from the fire hose nozzles
