  • 3 Seater Ski Stand Build Project

I decided to open my own thread on my build. I used the combination of various stand builds to come up with my own. So far I have spent $60.90 on (4) 2"x2"x8' .095 Square Tubing and $32 on (eight) 5" Locking Caster Wheels. Four wheels for this stand another 4 for my 2 seater stand. I still have some metal left over to build on my 2nd Ski Stand for my shorter 2 seater Kawasaki. I will be posting my measurements as soon as I am done with the Project. Since I don't have my Casters yet, I had to guestimate the height of where the bunks will be. As I stated in another thread, I want to come as close as i can to making the bunks on the Trailer line up with the Ski Stand Bunk. This should make it easier to load and unload. Hence why you see the small piece of 2" tubing added for height.

Here are some pics of the first 3 days of "after work" cutting and welding.

          It's looking good.

I built a basic one out of pressure treat and allthread. No wheels, just to hold one of my parts skis.

That looks nice. Are you going to be painting it as well?

Thanks guys. Yes, I plan on painting it Semi-Gloss Black. I've used Auto Trim Paint that holds up real well on bare metal. I gotta wait till I weld on the Casters and fit the Bunks.

Consider drill and tapping holes to bolt the casters to the frame in case of future caster failure and needed replacement? Just a thought......

The problem with bolting on is that the base is larger than the tubing itself. I think the only thing that might fail would be the wheel itself, which I can drill out and replace. I think if I did incorporate your idea, I would use a nut and bolt since the tubing is pretty thin to do any tapping. I don't have the Casters yet, so I am not even sure the base is totally flat. Thanks for the input though. Keep 'em coming.

Weld a flat plate on to bolt the casters to.

What about using U-bolts to hold the casters to the tubing?

thats what i was gonna say also.. plus it will give the caster more rigidity when you hit a crack in the floor etc

                        kinda like this

Thanks guys but got the Casters after work and decided to just weld them on. I didn't see your posts until I was done. No biggie and if they fail, I can always grind them off and do it the right way (your ideas )

I cut the 2 by 4's and drilled the holes in the stand. Fitted the bolts and made sure to recess the bolt heads and add washers for strength. Last thing to do is to staple the carpet on and then paint the stand. I kinda like the rustic steel look. I wonder if there is a bare metal clear paint out there
