1050 Gen 1 ignition issue
Has anyone installed non resistor plug caps to increase spark? Pulling my hair out on a SL1050 with Gen 1 ignition. Has a new flywheel, stator looks brand new (not the update), someone installed a used CDI, I've ohm'd everything per the manual and everything checks except Primary coils are at .9 not .35 and Alternator coil (red/purple to yellow) is 1.2 not .75. The symptom is the center cylinder cuts in and out. several new plugs, clipped cap end, checked all other wiring. Secondary's are fine, exciter coils are fineComment

There is a reason the original ignitions are being replaced with Update Kits - the originals are susceptible to failure.
Without spare parts to swap in and test with, you are hoping that both the stator and the CDI are good. You can certainly test the stuff around the CDI and ohm test the stator, but the litmus test is to install known good parts.Comment

Sigh.... F@$#ing frustrating. $650 for CDI. From youknowwho, 4-5 weekdays for delivery. $200 for stator. Yes, know it will be brand new, but..
Apologies if I dropped this in wrong spot.Comment

I am putting together a package to send to the company that is actively manufacturing aftermarket Polaris 750 CDIs. I am working with them to develop this into a generic Fuji CDI with limp mode and selectable timing curves that will apply to 750s and 780s alike.
I have addressed the domestic ignitions as well, and they are interested. I have a bad CDI and good stator from a 96 SLT 1050 to send. Does anyone have any of the other component configurations they would be willing to send me so I can do this all in one shipment?
Let me know and I will PM you my address.Comment

Sometimes it ain't ignition. Little bugger stuck in the back side of the high speed jet. haven't figured how it got in there yet but my posts had me pulling my hair out thinking CDI etc, when middle cylinder kept coming in and out. Took a week and much testing with the ohmeter to confirm everything else was behaving. Thanks to all. Hurricane still needs CDI👍 1Comment

TO: the Powers that be at POLARIS,
There are a lot of us who love the jet skis you made. Some of us more so than others, but we are a hardcore group who even to this day know that your stuff was light years ahead of its time. A lot of people in the PWC world and on forums, and ‘specialy a few of us at ESI Powersports in Upstate NY are very fond of the 2 year limited production Sport-Spec Legal hullof the HURRICANE. These boats are becoming harder and harder to find in good shape and to maintain with OEM parts. There had been a brief period of time when the electronics and CDI were updated and available. Now in 2013 they are scarce and because of such; insane-a-cane-ly expensive on the secondary market. We at ESI are pioneering a new exhaust setup and a lot of RnD has gone into making this boat very desirable again as a racers choice on the line alongside the popular Blasters and HX hulls. We and many others humbly ask for POLARIS to reexamine their commitment to the community and decide that due to popular demand, manufacture some new updated parts for those of us who seek them and keep the POLARIS Legacy alive and always ripping on the water.
Sincerely,
ESI Powersports, Myself( Dave Sheedy-Owner of ESPI) and Polaris fans everywhere.Last edited by DaveESPI; 11-12-2013, 09:15 PM.sigpic

I have contacted www.cdibox.com he's a friend .. I have been oval racing snowmobiles & using his CDI's for 15 years..Not one failure..... he also may be able to repair stators.. he does them for some sleds... he also has a couple [Polaris PWC's a sl900& a stl750 so he has the capability to make measurement.. but he will need to know what is failing so he can look into it more.. So post here... I sent him this link he has a real job so this will NOT happen over night we'll see if he can help... he has developed a cdi for the old surf jets for the fugi engine in them .. my buddy has run one of those for years no issues!!
