When you provide an update of the .XLS file, I need to figure out how to import/copy the changes I have previously made into the newer version. I have not done that yet, so I just keep multiple copies. Makes for more rummaging around when I forget which version has what info in it

I do not know what the best approach is for keeping the data updated, yet allowing for personal and/or external extensions and additions to the data.

Perhaps a Wiki type system would be good for capturing and presenting SOME of the Polaris PWC related knowledge and info that is floating around out there...
I am not really concerned with the ability to let everyone update my work. As you can imagine that is just asking for trouble. I do welcome input, and will add it if it comes from a source that is reputable or the info can be verified in some fashion. However, if I let everyone make changes to the spreadsheet, I feel that it could get difficult to keep track of all of the changes and verify their accuracy.

I realize that nothing is perfect and I am sure that there are errors in what I have completed so far. But, almost everything in there has been verified by more than one source or has come directly from an OEM Polaris manual.

As far as synchronizing .xls files; there is a way too do it from Microsoft Office, but I loaned out my book and can't remember exactly how to do it.

I actually think that I am going to convert this from a spreadsheet to a database. I am still learning database management but I believe that converting it will make it easier to browse and search.

      Maybe this

Oh now I see. I think this is what you want to do but I haven't tried it. I got it from MS excel help online going through the help on the menu bar of excel. (search "merge workbooks")
      1. Make sure the copies of the shared workbook (shared workbook: A workbook set up to allow multiple users on a network to view and make changes at the same time. Each user who saves the workbook sees the changes made by other users.) that you want to merge are all stored in the same folder. To do this, you must give each copy a different name.
      2. Open the copy into which you want to merge changes.
      3. On the Tools menu, click Compare and Merge Workbooks.
      4. If prompted, save the workbook.
      5. In the Select Files to Merge into Current Workbook dialog box, click a copy that has changes to be merged, and then click OK. To merge more than one copy at the same time, hold down CTRL or SHIFT and click the file names, and then click OK.

          Looks clean!

What DPI are you scanning at?

BTW, you might be able to make the holes disapear by taping a strip of bright white paper down one side of the scanner glass. With a clean cut edge, the scanner should just see white. For the back side of the pages, scan them upside down, then flip them in the software.

              Good price!
I presume you are comfortable fixing gear like this.

If the power pack is the same as mine, it is 16VDC at 2.5Amps, center pin positive.

The software is key, of course. I think it is all downloadable from Fujitsu.

Be sure you have LOTS of disk space, and clean out that TEMP folder in Windows.

I added an updated version of the Polaris spec sheet to the server today. Lightning took out my main web server a couple of weeks ago so I am running on a back up server so be patient is she is a little slow.

Could you post the equivalent .XLS version?

                  Thanks.

I would like to find some info on which skis came with which styles of MFDs. Anybody know where that kind of info could be found?

                        Did you buy a machine?

I think I read through the whole thread. Did you buy a machine? Did you decide what Polaris machine to buy?

I wold ask you before you decide anything is what kind of riding do you want to do?

Will you have a passenger? Do you want to Tube and waterski? or are you out on your own ripping around with other jetskiiers? Do you have kids?

All important questions before you decide to buy a boat. Personally I don't like the sound of a 700 cc boat unless its in a small (light) 2 seater. I think you would get a bit tired of something thats too slow after awhile.

Also regarding fuel injection - the mechanics can correct me if I am wrong - there is very little you can to to a fuel injected motor if you want to make it go faster later. A carbed motor gives you more options later if you decide you want more power.

Last thing. The Virage (with the 1200 ) motor is probably the most versatile ski in the Polaris lineup. It has a sporty hull, its fast but it still feels relatively small. It will still seat 3 (tight) and pull a tube etc. It is more of a flat bottom that will jump waves instead of cutting through them.
The MSX 140 (I was on one yesterday) is a large comfortable boat that will cross rough water, seat 3, pull tubes etc but will always feel large if you are alone and just ripping around.
A two seater SLX is also flat bottomed and great for just ripping around with friends. It is not a smooth ride in rough water. It will seat you and another small person. 2 large people will not have tons of fun and its a bit tippy. I go out with my daughter and do donuts and fall off and have fun - but you can't pull a tube - legally etc.
I have not rode a Genesis yet (I own one) but it looks like an awfully big boat. No ripping around for sure - but large and comfortable. I plan to pull tubes all summer with that machine - but thats all.

If you are looking for good prices for any machines - don't look in Canada. Go south. Take a drive to Florida - they seem to have the best prices down there.

Let me know when you are going riding and we will get out.

                        james

FYI, my server is down . It finally died and I don't know when I will be able to replace it. I am trying to find an afforable replacement but haven't had any luck yet.

I can run the website on a desktop, but I would prefer to get another small server.

However, to do it right, I also need to upgrade my Internet connection to a business account. This would provide better bandwidth and correct the blocked port 80 issue and dynamic DNS that I have to work around. I really cant justify the $100 a month bill to upgrade.

The real answer that I am looking at is buying a nice server with the capacity to host multiple websites, upgrade with my ISP, then rent out the space for other sites to help pay for the bandwidth. If I can rent 4 sites for $20 per month that makes the whole thing eaiser.

When I come across a desktop that will work I will try to get the site back up in it's old capacity.

                                -Rob
