K447 - I haven't been on in a long time. I need 5 posts to go into classifieds. I'm just an old guy who bought a '92 in '94 and have browsed enough to see your posts scattered around and come to expect them to be the most helpful.

I have 1. They go 50 MPH, decent on gas. does'nt hold 2 people all that well. wobbly with 2. Porposies at high speed so ya have to lean back at full speed. or use the electric trim on it! but fun!! spins 180's 360's- big skis cant. Tons of mods for them for speed, handling, turning. Fairly cheap to fix. Parts are plentiful on here for them. Tons of people here willing to help ya. Lighter than heavier, some skis are over 550 lbs. Fun to ride. Bigger version is the SLT 3-seater.

Updates required. gas tank lines replaced, check all screens-exhaust,intake, inlet, ete, replace fuel pump with triple pump and get rid of auto cock, replace all fuel lines, replace all filters, replace tank gas cap with alum one. Usually can find 1 between 300-1000 dollars. just depends on hours, condition, seller attitude,location......Ride more, worry less.

I paid 500.00 for mine. Running!

You must mean the MFI digital display unit.

What do you mean by 'disconnected'?
Haw are you starting and stopping the engine?

...Where is the best place to find a used or new (reasonably priced) shroud unit (instruments)?...
John Zigler is one source for used parts, others would be the Classifieds on here (any Virage or Genesis MFI display will fit, look for PWC being parted out), and of course eBay.

If your 2001 model has start/stop module (sometimes combined with the LR voltage regulator), check that it is properly wired up.

BTW, it sounds like the wet MFI display was invoking RPM limit mode on the engine. Since you don't have any display at the moment, you cannot see if there is still some warning issue that may still need attention. I suggest you get a display on there, if only temporary, to confirm there is nothing else needing attention.

Do you know if the repair shop installed a spare MFI display while they were diagnosing the problem?

It has taken be a few days to get back on the site. In the mean time, the 2001 Polaris Virage that would not run much past at idle, I took back to the shop. The console shroud (speedometer and other insturments are wet and not working. They had to disconnect the shroud unit in order to make the jetski run full speed. It worked and it now runs like a scalded dog. However, the start/stop swith also got disconnected in the process. This is more of an aggravaation, but not a serious problem.

    Question?

Where is the best place to find a used or new (reasonably priced) shroud unit (instruments)? I can certainly make it without it, but the dealer said a new unit was over $400. Since I only paid $2k for the jetski, that is a little unreasonable.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
