Polaris SL700 Impeller preload

I just rebuilt my SL700 impeller with 2 new oil seals and two new Timken sealed bearings.

I torqued the impeller down to 100 ft/lb and the impeller is a little tighter than expected. It turns very smoothly but it feels like a little too much preload to me.

Is this something that loosens up with time? Is it supposed to be tight?

I have the spacer in between the bearings and also have the spacer for the seals to ride in. The only thing I can think of is a little corrosion is caught between the bearings and the impeller housing.

If the spacing between the two bearing races is not exactly the same as the spacer length then the bearings will likely wear and fail early.

Both bearings need to fully and precisely seat into the stator hub, such that the distance between them is exactly the same as the spacer length.

The spacer itself must not be damaged and the spacer ends must be clean, flat and square with the axis.

There is no preload spec. My understanding is that there is no side loading on the bearings at all, until the jet pump is pushing forward in the water.

I was just letting everyone know I am not missing any spacers that would cause the bearings to bind. There is one aluminum spacer in-between the bearings and a steel spacer that the oil seals ride on.

Since I did not want to remove the seals and the end bearing, I just put a few thousands of spacers, from the non seal end. in-between the bearings and it turns a lot easier, no change in resistance from when the prop is loose.

I did buy those bearings and seals based on that post! Thanks for confirming.
