Stator replacement gromet

I have a 97 780 I'm replacing the stator on. The screws for the stator grommet holder are stuck so I ground one off. I was wondering if I could just silicone the new wire grommet to the housing. Do I have to have to have the metal retainer on it or will I be ok securing the wire grommet inside the mounting hole and plastering it with silicone to hold it in place?

I would prefer to see it secured with a fastener. Your flywheel will be spinning in close proximity to those wires.
